Shot fireballs, summoned demons.

Spellcasting in Skyrim compared to previous games felt like 1 step forward 2 steps back.

Cool you can cast with either hand, there's new spell types like the runes you place on the ground, but they also cut a tonne more spell types from the game too.

Vanilla destruction was absolute garbage at higher levels because the damage didn't scale at all. So the best you'd end up doing is reducing its cost to nothing and spamming dual-cast Fireballs to stagger until you got Lightning Storm.

My favorite playthrough was as a khajiit healer who has to have a companion at all time. Can cast any spell that doesnt harm, and is a khajiit because i love being bullied even when im a good girl. Love walking into a town and getting accused of thieving when all i want to do is help people. Not a furry btw, if people treated bosmer or redguard like trash id play them in a heartbeat.

Made a "Witcher" style character in both my last playthrough of Oblivion and currently Skyrim, combines one handed, alchemy and spellcasting all into one.

There is no actual skill to skyrims combat. You either are hilariously above everyone or you spam potions because the bandits you were killing in a couple of swings now take 30 swings to kill because you passed some arbitrary level. The only thing you can do is just make sure you are prepared better, things like smithing, enchanting and alchemy allow you to break the game because you can prepare yourself to be invincible,

The only way get any fun out of the game is to either play a mage or stealth character. Magic is fun and switching between spells on the fly can be fun, but you become woefully under powered starting from mid game. Stealth classes are fun but get boring once it becomes clear how easy it is to break skyrims ai.

Stealth classes and magic classes need mods to keep being fun. No amount of modding is going to make melee combat fun, I've tried. Dodging mods, multiple combat overhauls, better blocking, ai overhauls. It just sucks and I don't know how anyone can enjoy it.
