Anyone want to join some slightly more organized play? I've got a discord server (discord.gg/K4cG33), but open to other chat methods. Also want someone to play through hacks with, since I've never done any of them.

I think it's that most players are waiting for more stable versions and more player interaction features because it'll be a lot of people that come in with most pvping in the lobby. Then when someone actually wants to do a level its a pain to get everyone on the same page because the server file doesnt have stars or keys to get to later levels, and some go to different levels while others suck too much to get through the level and eventually you're alone in an area and feel like you're just playing single-player except with Yoshi and text messages appearing. I'll keep playing just so other anons who haven't experienced it yet can, because we're glad this is a thing that exists, but it needs more development to be lastable.

basically it works like this
everyone is running their own copy of the game.
A program (sm64online) is reading the emulator, and sending info about the player's whereabouts to the host, who tells everyone where that guy is.
Then everyone's osm64 online programs tell the emulators to draw Waluigi in this specific stage, in this specific location, in this specific pose.
Star grabs are kept track of, meaning players can work together to beat the game.

But objects are not synced.
You may see each other, but you aren't playing the exact same world. You each are running your own copies of basically anything that moves.
Luckily a lot of the stage doesn't move, so this oftentimes isn't an issue. But it does pop up during:
>boss fights
>moving platforms
>in map events, like the snowman's head, or activating a star
>item blocks or star blocks

All in all, it's not quite as cool as full sync intractability would be.
But it's still pretty fucking rad. And has way less network overhead than full sync would.
