It already has that many worthwhile games and its only like 6 months old or something. It often even has the most high-value version of equivalent multiplats too (simply due to everything being portable. BotW and Sonic Mania, for example).

It also doesn't suffer from the public relations issues the Wii U did (ie. nobody knowing that it fucking exists) and so will be carried for a long time by hype.

The gamecube was his baby and an unmitigated failure, in which several execs at nintendo went into great detail as to why, most of which consider it to be iwata's fault, a big example is cramming so much of the past into the controller without considering a new avenue.

Wii hits a viral niche but otherwise software attatchment is much below expected, wii hit a market that didn't have smart phones yet to distract them. A lot of the wii's gripes were directly the fault of Iwata.

Miyamoto didn't want to put out a non-HD console, Sakamoto didn't want a wii-mote that didn't have 1:1 functionality, shareholders didn't like the silence from third party.

All of these things hurt the wii in the tail end of it's lifespan.

Wii U comes iwata's next baby and it has the literal exact problems that the gamecube had. Trying to cram everything into one thing, now including the DS's touch screen.

Despite the praise that iwata gets for the wii's success, he was an incredibly frustrating man to work for and did not appear to care what anyone else thought.

It has nothing to do with Iwata dying. The Switch and most of these games were planned years in advance. What made Nintendo change was the Wii U failing. They pushed the Wii U hard as a family centric device. Half of the fucking games they made for it were party games. After that failed to sell they went back to making it for individuals rather than families which is why this feels more like a gamecube.

The switch was just a continuination of what the idea for the wii u was, the only reason why the wii u wasn't a version of the switch that we have now is because iwata wanted to replicate the idea of the DS on tv and was *still* trying to do this with the switch.

Hardware wise the Switch is indeed an advancement of the concept behind the Wii U (or rather, the Wii U was what Nintendo was forced to make because they couldn't get the hardware for a Switch at a good price in 2012). However, I'm talking about software. In the Wii U's early years (2012-2014) most of the games Nintendo made were family focused local multiplayer/party games. Since those failed to sell the system, they made the Switch more about the single player experience. 1-2 Switch is the only party game they made so far, and it probably took them 30 minutes and a budget of $50.

I did not like Iwata and the board of directors were basically all his bitches, it was a dictatorship. His death saved the company.

Does anyone think that the Switch would be anything without BotW? The system itself seems unremarkable, and still burdened by all the problems that have been with Nintendo since the Gamecube - needlessly gimmicky controller, weak hardware, weird online, and lack of third party support. But it launched with a great Zelda game, and a Mario game that promises to be great coming half a year later.

As far as I can tell, this is the major difference between the Switch and the Wii U. The Wii U had literally nothing at launch and for two years after the best it offered were shitty Mario rehashes. The Switch has great games right now, and perhaps even more importantly, main series Nintendo games that seem fresh. But after Galaxy comes out, I'm not sure what's there to keep the momentum going.

I feel like they rely too much on gimmicks now ever since the ds/wii era, I can only play Mario platformers and Zelda so much, really not a fan of metroid either. Compared to the rest of the games in the series sure but it wasn't the worst game ever made. It plays ok and looks, its just hardly a Metroid game, it doesn't get its 3D sections right now its attempts are 3rd person 2D actions, it just fails as a Metroid game. But as a game on its own, its maybe a 6/10, neat ideas but too short and just unpolished to really be anything memorable. But in comparison to Metroid as a whole its obviously a lot worse, I get why people were frustrated at first but I was telling people to fuck off with the dead series meme years ago.
