For enemies to be end game worthy they either need to use magic or if they're physical only they need to be absolutely massive. The same is going to be true with the party you're fighting with unless your party is allowed to compromise of dozens if not hundreds of characters

Japs love making ninja and spellcaster types as strong as they can. Even heroes in their games absolutely have to use magic. In DQ2 the Hero didn't use magic and they never, ever went back to that.
