What kind of gems should I be stacking in my Kirkhammer? Physical

What kind of gems should I be stacking in my Kirkhammer? Physical damage% or blunt damage%? Something else entirely?

I sometimes use it in sword mode to gank smaller enemies. Also, Bloodborne thread.

Blunt if you're trying to go ham on the hammer form, but it'll make the sword form useless
regular phys for both, if you're in chalices and want to use both forms you need a 1xheavy abyssal
>>
>>389952907
Cool, I may just go pure blunt damage then. The sword is handy for parries and whatnot, but I use charged R2 + R2 and L-stick forward + R2 so much that I don't think I can justify physical or thrust damage. Backstep to R1 is great in sword form for the ayy lmaos though.

After several games of no matter what falling into building arcane gems or tools, I tried just going full strength and used the Kirk Hammer with blunt%.
Holy dear god was it powerful. From levels and stat scaling the sword is going to be okay but not great, but when you're in hammer form it's like you're a fucking god.

If you don't like it then try other things. Personally I loved Hammer Time straight off the bat and I've used it ever since.
>>
>>389956463
When you get used to the timing and range of it, you'll wreck the shit out of everything in sight. Make sure you're doing a STR/VIT build, and stuff it full of blunt damage blood gems.
>>
>>389956463
Play what's fun for you anon.
Aside from a pure gun playthough, which IS possible but needs the DLC and a lot of skill and managment, you can play anyway you want. Bloodborne is really well balanced in that regard.
>>
>>389952016
I always loved the kirkhammer due to it having all 3 damage types on it, so I always go phys%

But if you're not using the sword, there's no reason to not go all blunt

If you get blunts you can also try out the Beast Cutter, since that has only blunt damage and is actually a manly version of the cane
>>
>>389956634
>>389956643
>>389956648
I'm currently on that vicar lady beast and I want to smash that head of hers for more damage and getting your health back is near impossible to with hammer part
>>
>>389952016
I go full physical. It works for me.
>>
>>389956463
If you like the 2H aspect, you can get Ludwig's Holy Blade for 20k echoes after you beat the BSB. Take the lift on the right side of Oedon's temple and fight your way to the top for a badge in a chest (sword hunter's badge?). Now you can buy LHB from the bath messengers. It's similar to the Kirkhammer in its moveset, but is easier on stamina, has more range, and is more geared for quality builds.

As a Kirkbro, I wasn't a huge fan of it, but I think I'm just too used to the hammer's moveset at this point.
>>
>>389956648
>which IS possible but needs the DLC
Nah

Keep pumping BLT and using the pistol. Get radiant sword badge asap for bone marrow. The pistol will carry you to Cainhurst no problem. You can also get the Repeating one if you're good with managing bullets.
At Cainhurst you can rush the Evelyn chest, which will carry you through the rest of everything
>>
>>389956917
You get the most rally (health back) with transform attacks (L1). Some weapons have higher/lower rally potential, but transformation attacks are always the way to go
>>
Better blunt gems are much much harder to farm, but if you have them then use them I guess. Beyond losing out on sword form damage, the other problem with blunt gems is that they don't boost visceral damage like physical and thrust gems do. Kirkhammer still wants 25 skill, so losing visceral damage matters though not as much as on a 50 skill build. Unless you never parry and never get viscerals bn hitting weakpoints or whatever.
>>
>>389952734
Gascoigne doesn't approve of blunt weapons anon...

skill
>>
>>389957495
Absolutely based, didn't even know this was there. Gonna grab it after work tonight.
>>
>>389957529
If I remember correctly, it's quite a few things. Your overal level will increase its damage regardless of what the points are on. Then skill boosts it by a large % on top of that base, with strength being a very small % on top of that base. The attack is specifically thrust, so physical, nourishing, and thrust gems on your currently equipped weapon also boost it.
>>
>>389952016
I tend to go full phys, sometime ago I read something about how blunt damage scaled worse in comparison with going full physical.
>>
>>389956917
If you have the DLC, after killing Vicar you can run around collecting weapons there without killing the first boss. The Whirligig Saw is just a better kirkhammer in a lot of ways.

The only other real option of similar type is ludwig's holy blade, as someone else mentioned. I would say it's a flawless weapon as far as pve is concerned, and it's overused for a very good reason.
>>
>>389957438
Definitely is. You do need to maximize the blood bullet ability for Gascoigne, but after you get Evelyn it's cake. Marrowed shots dealt like 700 something damage to Rom last I remember with 40 or so BLT
Anything that can be parried dies even faster with Marrow + counter damage
>>
>smash the Shadows of Yharnum to death
>about to go to Byrgenwerth
Kind of excited, lads.
>>
>>389958790

Rom can be a tricky fight with slower weapons that leave you as open as the hammer does. Just don't get greedy and take your time.

Also don't waste your insight on summoning any of the NPC hunters for this fight if you have been. They die to the adds almost instantly.
>>
>>389959372
Honestly the only summoning you should be doing would be for the fire dog in defiled chalice. That guy is a fucking asshole on half health
>>
>>389959372
Thanks for the tip, friend. I generally don't use the bells unless I feel like I'm beating my head against the wall. But I've also been stockpiling my madman's knowledge, so I have 22 or so sitting in my inventory in case I need them.
>>
>>389959510

That whole fucking chalice is bullshit. The dog wasn't half as much trouble as Amy.

>>389959634

I spent all my insight buying chunks for the DLC weapons that I liked because I got really sick of farming for them. At 20 per chunk even every insight you pick up during the game doesn't go far.

There's only a handful of things that give frenzy, and you can dodge their grab.

Nah, even if you get grabbed there they shouldn't trigger it.

The only thing the dog ever got me with was the dash, and that has a pretty obvious wind up. Amy's thrashing got me damn near every fucking time, especially in the last stage of the fight.

Is it possible to make a gun a viable combat tool aside from just parrying? Or would it require spamming Bone Marrow Ash to get any damage out of it? Kind of interested in a bloodtinge build and I'm wondering how powerful a gun can become.
>>
>>389960929

Bloodtinge is tough to build up to until you get to Cainhurst, but very very worth it. I went full vileblood with the Evelyn and Chikage and breezed through the entire game and chalices for the platinum. You can spam bone marrow for ranged damage to bosses when you need it, but I found it wasn't necessary the majority of the time.

Yup. That late chalice dungeon with the small humanoid cosmos things that just line up for you was a pleasant experience with the tiny tonitrus. About a million souls each run as well.
>>
Redpill me on how to fuck up Logarius. You can dodge 99% of his attacks, but he never stops to give you an opening and eventually wears you down. I don't even have the opportunity to party.

Is he just freaking out temporariky? Gascoigne was an unstoppable monster for a few tries until his ai calmed down a bit.

I don't understand, BBP on both give you insane damage but Amy Arm has that insane reach.

>>
>>389964639
The hammer is man-made though. You don't need any part of them to beat them back. You just need a slab of iron, your mitts, and your own human rage. You're essentially killing a god with a big ol' rock. Fuck them. FUCK THEM

Anyone can pick up a rock, or a tool. It takes a true Hunter to tear his prey apart.
