the point of the AAI games is that you get all the necessary evidence and find the proper culprit, the actual prosecuting doesn't really add anything there

ace attorney is not an attorney game series at its heart despite its title, it's mostly based on things like Columbo

AA is a detective game and came out pretty much how Takumi wanted it to be

Ghost Trick is more of a puzzle game combined with point n click elements, with a really well told story. It's one of the best games out there, go play it.

Edgeworth doesn't cross examine. It's just not his job. It would've been amazing if any of the AA trilogy re-releases would've had a side-episode that showed Edgeworth/Franziska/Godot(Mainly Edgeworth)'s point of view in every case, but outside of AAI, there's not much else you can do with Edgeworth. Besides, AAI2 was absolutely amazing. One of the best in the franchise. I wish they'd make a sequel that's even nearly on par with it.

DGS1 was pretty bad and DGS2, while much better, is of average quality in terms of AA games (so don't expect a jump of quality like AAI1 > AAI2 did).

How does that work? I'm guessing Shu Takumi is sick of Wright, but how did they mess up DGS1/2?
I thought PLvsAA was weak because it was too much Layton, but it definitely felt weak even if I solely focused on Wright's character

Why can't Yamazaki write good final villains?

Manfred, Gant, Engarde and Dahlia were all-around amazing.

Alba was boring (the entire of AAI1 was) and overstayed his welcome.
The Phantom is pretty much a non-character after he takes off his mask. I know that's the point, but that still does not make him a compelling villain.
Garan is incredibly cliche. Motivation, looks, personality and all.

Then there's Kristoph and Simon who were great characters but had lacking confrontations.

I think Yamazaki is good at writing villains, it's just that none of them ended up being the final one except the Mastermind (which you didn't mention). Calisto Yew in particularly was really good, as were the likes of Retinz and Knightley.

I still think Calisto should've been the final boss of AAI, and that the Phantom should've not done the dumb mask shit but kept with the spy gear in DD. Both are good villains but Calisto gets the great breakdown BEFORE fifteen ages of Alba which lessens the impact, and the "no face" shit makes Fulbright less interesting.
