C'mon, I didn't hate it but it detracts from Majima's role in the story quite a bit. They literally had to throw together an encounter before the 2nd fight with him at the hotel because in the original, you were supposed to think he wouldn't come back from getting stabbed at the batting cages.
Fighting Majima is fun and all, but the way it fucks with the story and how he was originally presented is something people can't all find okay.

He's basically Majima's reason for yearning freedom. Majima in Zero is literally caged. He met people like Nishitani who he looked up to because they didn't let anything hold them down, and when he died in a cell it made him want to break out more. Having his heart ripped apart walking away during the ending would've blown a fuse for him.

Majima Everywhere isn't perfect, but that's not one of its problems. He barely had a menacing or mysterious presence, he was just a fun, crazy guy and they went all out on that in Kiwami. The only problems it had as far as changing the story went were how Kiryu didn't give a shit when he was shot and fell in the ocean and how Majima said "Long time no see" in his first boss fight despite you seeing him constantly.

He was never confusing or terrifying, he was a lot goofier in Kiwami than he was initially, but all there was to his character in 1 was that he was crazy. He was a good and likable crazy guy, but it's all he was. They expanded on him a little in 2 but they didn't really start trying to make him more than the crazy guy until 3.
