Only game I ever played enough to become utterly phenomenal was Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. The first 400 or so hours of playing the game, 90%+ of them were in duel mode until I became an absolute god at Man At Arms, not even feinting or abusing the feint-to-parry macro.

When I started joining conquest pubs it was hilarious.

I'm asking for a friend who is making a pirate combat game, they had a full Mount and Blade/Chiv style melee combat system initially but found it was too complex and finicky in the heat of a boarding system, now they've reduced it down to just M1 swing and M2 block, which is pretty crap (you can block forever)

I was wondering if a simplified Chiv system could work in such a game.

MacGregor had a decent showing but it was pretty obvious by the end that the MMA fighters (since MMA fights are shorter) couldn't stand up in an extended boxing competition. Especially when Mayweather's specialty is turtling.

Chivs system had an incredibly high skill cap while still being rather simple, i wouldn't make it even more simple. But yeah it would be phenomenal if adopted into that format for a pirate game. I would just remove the abuse of drags and feint-to-parry literally negating any penalty a 2h had in the latter half of the games life. Same thing mordheim is wanting to do to remove the abuse of mechanics like ridiculous drags, the overhead crouch spin attack, etc
