I'd be more interested in fighting games if most of them weren't dead as fuck. Even SFV and Tekken don't seem all that alive

Honest reason?
I can't stand people relying on spamming or using exploits to win, which happens a lot in any online game, but fighting games suffer from that more.
A great example is Tekken 7. Enjoy fucking up a block and getting bodied or dealing with faggot Eddy players. No thanks.

No interest whatsoever?

Tell me your honest reason why you haven't gotten into fishing games and why you aren't willing to learn.

Because every time I get online I get a massive losing streak and my blood pressure goes up something fierce. Takes too long to get skilled and actually start winning.

I got balls deep in them this year with super turbo on fightcade. Really enjoying the genre so far. ST is by far my favorite because of the footsies and speed. I'll probably go to a tournament next year.

I also like guilty gear but it's not really as captivating to me as ST and vampire savior are. But it's fun.

I wish I got into them years ago but I'm only getting back into vidya this year. Took a long hiatus and missed a lot. I played a teensy bit of sf4 but I didn't like the sluggishness, and even back in 2010 I thought ultra combos were a dumb thing, to reward you for getting hit. But ST is real fast and fun to play and I like using o.ryu so no meter for me.

My husband made me get SFV as my first fighting game earlier this year so that I could start playing with him. I made it to Gold yesterday, though I don't really feel good about it, since I still feel like I've only just started playing and know very little about the gimmicks most of the cast has. Since I'm already invested, I want to get all of the achievements, but it seems like a huge time sink to get 300 Critical Art finishes or beating Survival on Extreme.

I'd rather go back and spend more time on music games, really.

the actual bullshit characters are xiaoyu and kazumi, and even then theyre not that bad. xiaoyu requires a different playstyle to beat than other characters, but shes fine. kazumi is just really solid, nothing gimmicky, shes just great at everything

And the competitive side of those games is still limited to "exciting" matches that feature one person almost losing and then winning with a combo that's hard to use or hard to recover from or some horeshit that makes you wonder why anyone plays the games at all.

we get it, you learned a moveset, now the entire rest of the world outside of poor south koreans and rich north koreans have moved onto games with an actual third dimension, and they come in so much more varieties that it makes 2d fighters incredibly boring to play.

If I'm playing as Batman I want to use my cunning and planning to beat the Joker and Harley, not pound them into dust with my fists and/or dick.

I'm just so baffled with how anyone can have fun with this medium, let alone how anyone can take it seriously. In my friends circle the only ones who play it are the guys who are stoned 90% of the time, and even they find it boring when they are sober.

Depends on how many friends of mine are playing the game and if it's cheap. Either way, I usually just like to dick around and just choose different characters each match, just sticking with one or two never felt right to me. Even party fighting stuff like Smash, I'll usually just pick a handful of characters I like rather than just sticking with one.

I'm getting older and my hands hurt while playing them.

I feel like I'm too old now to get good at them to be honest. Everyone seems to be teenagers, barring the few other older guys who have been playing since they were teenagers.

I did get into fighting games and I'm better than all the people I know personally at them, especially the street fighter style ones. That said I've never really hit up any scenes and I haven't really picked one up in a while after SFV kinda scared me off with that release zangief. If you have a friend to practice with and get better with who is around your skill level and also willing to learn it's great. I don't mash and for the most part my inputs kinda clean, but my fundamentals are very poor and I'm not good at footsies, proper zoning and defense so I get opened up very easy. I bought Tekken 7 over the weekend and a friend of mine came over and we played for a good amount of time. Had a ton of fun even though we're complete rookies. I also got Street Fighter 5 recently as a gift and I have been playing that with my same friend and we're getting better at it together.
Personally I've already made up my mind and decided this is the gen I really want to put in work and get into fighting games big time. I'm having a ton of fun and I really love watching myself improve over time. I'm not even that good but I'll get there eventually. Funny thing about this is that I'm the OP. I read just about every reply in this thread because I was generally curious about what kind of answers I would see.

That's really just her V-trigger shenanigans which require a bit of work if you want to maximize its potential. If you enjoy zoning and just do light punch/kick into her V-skill when your opponent closes in she's still new enough that people are unfamiliar with the match-up and you can do well in lower tiers online.
