I remember a few years ago when newer generations were complaining about NES games for being "too hard", because of things like limited lives, continues and some other design choices. Have we reached the point where even newer generations have grown old enough that now even 16-bit era games with all their commodities are still considered too hard?

I know a person that has never played a Metroid game in his life, and refuses to do so because Metroid games have "bump" damage. That's right, he was complaining about one of the very basic rules of platforming. This person is a college freshman, which means most likely his first console was of the 6th generation when 2D platformers were already scarce.
