Yeah it's real easy being the only half competent detective on an entire police force in the middle of what was probably the biggest crime wave rural Japan has encountered in 30 years. He never hit her or anything, he just got drunk. My dad used to get drunk and throw me in a pool in November.

>Arc System Works originally wanted Ryotaro Dojima as one of the playable characters of Persona 4 Arena during the pre-planning stages when they were deciding on the cast. Takumi Iguchiya joked that instead of a Persona, he would summon Nanako Dojima to his aid. However, Atlus rejected that concept.
>>
>>389910992
I'm never not going to be mad about this.
>>
>>389910607
What would Dojima's Persona and Shadow have been?
>>
>>389910992
His summon should have been a white sedan
>>
>>389910992
It always felt like Naoto was created after they decided to remove Dojima as a party member to me. She's a cool character but she's basically a cop, who carries a gun for no discernible reason since she's fucking 15, and her plan was something that felt like a desperate person of more normal intellect would attempt to apprehend the killer, I.E. something dojima would've tried after coming to believe Nanako was being targeted for whatever reason.

It honestly would've been better, since "mourning father who feels impotent in the face of his wife's death and has to try and most likely fail to raise a kid by himself" is infinitely more relatable than genius child detective who's "secretly" female but wants to be male for respect but not really.

I bet at some point they dropped him for another teenager character.
>>
>>389911261
His shadow would've definitely been his gnawing regret at being a detective but not being able to locate his wife's killer, and his feelings of failure towards Nanako. Would've been pretty GOAT to see. I'd imagine his shadow would take the form of a dead woman mangled into a body of twisted car wreckage that spent the whole fight screaming in pain.
>>
>>389910992
>still no adult persona users

GOD
just GOD damn.
I guess japan doesn't want to deal with adulthood.
>>
>>389911403
Why is atlus allergic to adult characters?
The only smt game i can think of with adults as the main cast is strange journey.
>>
>>389911714
What about Persona 1 and 2?
>>
>>389911591
>Nanako is kidnapped
>You tell Dojima that she's been sucked into a TV world and that you can jump into it and get her out
>He laughs at you and tells you to prove it
>You get up and ACTUALLY PUT YOUR HAND IN THE FUCKING TV right in front of him
>He forces you to let him in and gets BTFO by Shadows
>You now need to save both Dojima AND Nanako before the month ends
>Dojima party member at the end of it
Imagine for a moment this actually happening. Why didn't they do this?
>>
>>389911591
>he doesn't just handle his persona like an adult because hes not some hormone addled teenager whose confused about everything

He would probably be the chain breaker without a boss fight. "yeah that stuff you say is true, it does eat at me but I'm moving past that and I've got a daughter to look after, I don't have the time to live in the past, I barely have enough time with nanako as is."
>>
>>389911841
Same reason why you never got Sojiro as a party member.
>>
>>389911829
thats what I was thinking about when I posted that. would be cool to have an adult whose persona is really under control
>>
>>389911875
Or alternatively, his problems are much, much more extreme than any other character and therefore would serve as the final shadow since he'd be way more disturbed by them.
>>
>>389911841
you know for a fact this was supposed to happen.

there was a god damn t.v. in your interrogation room. it was even scoobie dooed so you were supposed to interact with it.

if you check on it they say "oh well you don't know where you'll end up" which they clearly add in later.
>>
>>389911972
Excluding Ken you could also count the P3 characters that returned in the fighting game as adults.
>>
>>389912081
I don't know man, adachi probably had it the worst but his shadow didn't control him.

at least I don't think thats what controlled him.
>>
>>389899193
>Why are there so few good dads?

Fixed
>>
>>389912186
Or could go either way but adults tend to have way deeper problems than teenagers because they have more time to gather regret. Dojima definitely had a hardass life, I could see his shadow being way more terrifying and a demonstration to the others that their own problems while noteworthy weren't shit compared to an old dog like Dojima. Would've been a good way of setting up the stakes for the final third of the game, but I can see it working either way.
>>
>>389911714

I think it has more to do with adults already accepted who they are at that point. It would be kinda weird to have someone like Dojima, a man in his 40s, screaming at himself and denying who he is.
>>
>>389912216
I'd say the answer to that is really simple actually.

most forms of writing have a character that is a contradiction to the norm.

like slutty nun, girl who can't cook, or evil religious figure.

dads being idiots contradicts the old wise father figure that taught you everything you know.

but now as society changes, instead of that being intersting, shocking, or even satisfying it's simply normal and boring.

we simply enjoy contradictions and challenging norms.
Now the clock is turning, the bumbling father figure and the nihlistic character tropes are starting to get tiring.

we might fold back to old views just to challenge the wave of "progressive".
>>
>>389912452
>You abandon your daughter because you hate how much she looks like your wife!
>You hate how her existence reminds you of your failure and how you continue to fail!
>You hate her!
>NO YOU'RE NOT ME
>>
>>389912452
You think Dojima would take it well if someone just out and told him he was a shit dad that cared more about his wife's death than his daughter's life?
>>
>>389912387
See
>>389912452

I just think adults are a lot more understanding of their own thoughts.
>>
>>389912772
He'd probably just punch them first.

shit that'd be funny if he finishes the boss fight like as an assist.
>>
>>389912783
I consent to your point, but I feel it wouldn't necessarily have to be a screaming match like the others. Were it written more like a complete breakdown it could've had a lot of impact where instead of him screaming like a child he just breaks more inwardly.
>>
>>389912715
Do you even think Dojima would even deny it? He's hardly as insecure as the other shitty teenagers. Maybe if Nanako was there
>>
>>389912981
This, imagine a neighbor told him that. it'd probably stun him a bit but he'd understand pretty fast.
>>
>>389911717
Because that would be some straight up Silent Hill tier shit, that's why. Adults don't freak out over the simple shit the kids did, there issues would be way more brutal. You could honestly make a straight up horror game if you went far enough with it.

Imagine the shadow of a guy who killed his wife or accidentally hit a kid with his truck, or a cop trying to deal with shooting a pregnant woman on accident, or even something like a soldier with PTSD or a sexual predator having to face his/hers.
>>
>>389911717
There's also Eternal Punishment. Though there were still teen party members, for most of the game your main party is adults.
>>
>>389912981
Deny that he's not been the best father to Nanako? No, he wouldn't deny that. Deny that he hates and resents his own daughter? Yes, he would.
