It took me a full Saturday to get from 1 to 20 on my Titan, not counting the intro missions. This was ignoring numerous Adventures, running only 3 Strikes after they became available, and not touching the Crucible. The furthest I went from the story waa ti get my Striker subclass, which I had got the item and set up for just by doing the missions.
It was roughly eight hours to get to the credits, with quite a bit of side content untouched, and a good bit of post-game to get into. With the side content that'd be at least another hour.
So why the fuck are people claiming

They actually fixed the grind a lot. Engrams are nowhere near as common or idiotic, gear upgrades drop 90% of the time. Story's been fixed a lot too, but whether it's good or not is a matter of opinion.

Destiny 2's story heavily relies on you playing D1, they don't give any of the enemy factions a real introduction except the Cabal and the narrative assumes you already faced them before.

The story is more focused this time around, but it's really only limited to the events of D2, rather than worldbuilding or the history of the Golden Age/Collapse/events of D1.
