I'm just happy it showed that samurai fantasy games can still sell well internationally if they're good. It's been a decade since we had games like Onimusha, Genji, Otogi, Dororo etc. all coming out pretty regularly until they all dried up around 2006-07.

Supposedly there's a new feature called 'The Abyss' which is a perpetual battleground. Sounds like an infinite wave mode or something like that. Also a new difficulty on top of Way of the Wise.

Thinking of picking up Yakuza 0, Horizon Zero Dawn or Nioh.

i beat the game below 100 levels with shit gear, game was not diffucult, about dark souls diffuculty. dlc, however, was hard as fuck. everything got tons of hits to die and killed me in 2 hits. i grinded set green gear from revenants and completed the first dlc with summons(had no fun). started second dlc and oh my god, i deal 5% dmg per hit to fucking normal soldiers. who the fuck adjusts diffuculty here? i don't want to grind my ass, i just want to play dlc and move on. you can make it harder on way of bullshit, why is it hard on normal? fucking artificial diffuculty. and now, there will be a third dlc which i can't play. while i love nioh, mechanics are fine and they tried some new shit, i fucking hate how difficult dlcs are

They keep bringing out crazier and crazier sets and bonuses which stack and then multiply and then stack and multiply and you just pop out 100k damage like it's nothing by the time you're at end game, and tank hits from bosses without so much as a scratch.

yea, that's the problem. the dlc are made for people who grinded for hours, but, they could make it easy on normal difficulty for people like me, and make it harder on way of strong and way of wise for people who have grinded. i like this game type for fun combat and boss fights. i didn't have problems with maingame, people who didn't want to grind played once - people who wanted to grind moved on to ng+like way of strong. but this dlc scaling is bullshit.

a character who finished game should be able to clear dlc1. a character who finished dlc1 should be able to clear dlc2. you can make it harder for way of strongs, wise, demon etc. but it seems they really want me to grind for some reason, i already paid bro, just let me have fun with dlc bosses.

but i can't find what i am doing wrong. i tried using three different sets, kingo, the edgy raikiri set i don't remember the name, and a heavy armor set that gave me sword bonuses. i can dodge with all three, no problem. but i die in 2 hit and my damage is always shit. all gear is 150, some are 150+2. i am level 120 i think. all gear are divine. i unlocked onmyo and ninjutsu i needed, then unlocked almost everything for sword. i did dojo missions.

there are two things i didn't do, making my gear 150+10 ( i can't drop 150+ items for some reason ) and twinking my gear bonuses ( i already use the gear with bonuses to my stance-gameplay, but i don't have all my items exactly twinked). but hey, i don't fucking want to grind. i just want to play the game like souls, pick up items, kill bosses and shit. main games difficulty was OK, the dlc is fucked up. and yea, i saw people complaining its easy everywhere. i summoned someone with okatsu skin for boss, and he fucking 2 shotted the boss while i hit 5% dmg with my 3 hit combo lol. i would think i am doing something terribly wrong, but i completed the main game just fine, only struggled against 3 clones, thats all. how a easy game like this became such an artificial difficulty-fest in dlc, i can't understand.

You don't need to farm for Amrita or even farm good gear.
It's all about the multipliers on sets, and the stats you have. This isn't like Dark Souls where you get to a certain stat cap. You get to 99 of the three damage stats you have as soon as possible.

A good beginner set is Tatenashi mixed with Warrior of the West. Get the Accessory that gives the unique set bonus -1 to all set bonuses. You get it on NG from the mission Return the Gourd I think as guaranteed reward. Get full Tatenashi set (missing one due to this accessory), Warrior of the West Katana, Bow and Armor piece for the four set bonus. Then whatever main weapon you want.
At 30.1 Weight or Above, the set bonus from Tatenashi that you gain increased damage from more weight caps. The multipliers on each set stack multiplicatively, as well as all the damage resistance from the heavy armor on Tatenashi, you should be clearing even Way of the Wise easy mode.
Also join the Todo clan to turn your weight stat into a Health Stat.

As for later game generic armor, get General Kigetsu and stack debuffs. The easiest way to stack debuffs is to get Hermit Talisman and Carnage Talisman. The debuffs will turn into buffs and make you practically immortal while have HUGE DAMAGE BOOSTS.

Think of the game more like Diablo, except with action based gameplay.

Fair enough, not everything is gonna work for everyone. For me there's something about Bloodborne that draws me back in like some kind of gravity that Nioh lacks. Horizon might be one of the most sub-mediocre AAA game I have ever played. The only unique thing it has is the setting which it doesn't utilize properly. The moment to moment gameplay is just fucking awful.

Nioh is a better game than Horizon by merit of being a better game. I haven't played Yakuza 0, but if it is between that and Horizon, get Yakuza. I would rather play MOBAs or Korean MMOs than touch Horizon ever again.

Nobunaga in Nioh is shown as completely satisfied with his own life to a point he doesn't see any reason to come back as some sort of an eastern Jesus. It's really cool that Nioh avoided portraying him as a usual big bad from Onimusha and it's cool that if William got into Japan when he was alive, they would most likely ended up fighting together just like what happened with Yasuke as Nobunaga was drawn to unusual people.

Dark Souls 2 had stat rerolling and a new game + that actually changes the world.
those are the main reasons why Nioh can take up so much time, you get new game + with plenty of changes to the levels and on top of that you can reroll your character to try out a different weapon if you get bored.
while in Bloodborne you have to start a new game and a lot of people are turned off by that, and New Game + isnt that fun either.
