Certainly better than Inquisition. Snarky Marian is the best protag a Bioware game has ever had.
Too bad they rushed the development so much, would have liked to have more environment variety instead having the same recycled caves.

The crazy fighting animations, and the new artstyle were really both great
The party members were pretty great too, especially the banter, and their stories were good
Sarcastic Hawke was perfect, and the love/rivalry meter is the best relationship meter I've ever seen in a western game

I loved DA:O for it's highest difficulty. I barely managed most encounters and most of them took some planing and strategy.
DA2 fucked up this part. Enemies come in waves, you can never plan accordingly because you never know who or what is coming next, and pretty much all fights are like that. They fixed this in DA3 but DA3 fucks up the balance because it's semi-open world and you can run past/ignore enemies and come back when you leveled up enough.

You're wrong. The dialogue was not any less in-depth compared to Origins, although that's in part due to the dialogue there already being pretty shallow.
Really all they did was rearrange the response types that they already had in origins and placed them into marked categories.
If you listen to someone like Chris Avellone talk about how they used to do dialogue back in the day he also says that they typically aimed for having a kind, aggressive and neutral response in most cases.

Honestly the reason the game received such a backlash is because it was the sequel to DAO. If they made it some sort of a spinoff i actually see it getting its own place simply because it brought so many unusual for Bioware themes it's kinda hard to believe. Refugees setting fire to the city alone is hilarious, friendship/rivalry system is a great way to handle relationships that enabled even hatefucks, more personal story with no ancient evil involved was way better than the shit they usually use as an excuse for murder adventure and Merrill is probably the cutest romance-able female NPC they did since the days of KOTOR. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with a team of Varric/Aveline/Merrill, felt like a team of really good friends who care for each other deeply.

Make him a full rival. You can convince him that blowing up the Chantry won't help, and he'll actually seem to realize you're right and will prepare to go stop the bombs...only for Veangence to take over, call you a faggot, and wipe some of Anders' memories so the bombing still occurs.

If he's 100% rival, you can convince him that what he did will just fuck over Mages even more and convince him to help you and the Templars restore orders. He agrees, but implies he plans to kill himself after.

The setting, of a prison like city, where the race of people you hate the most lives across the next street, and a strict military police, is genius.
Few of the quests were DAO levels of great.
I liked the skill trees (but I believe purists had problems with it)

I like the combat in a way that it's a mix between DAO and an ARPG like Diablo.

I still won't forgive EA for hampering with the game's development. Like they gave them only 18 months to make it.

Actually it still limits roleplaying aswell, since male/female Hawke have designated voice actors and at the end of the day you are playing a variation of Hawke no matter what, as opposed to the amount of choices you have in Origins to play the Warden.

Every time I play through this happens. It's a condition that only gets worse with time. Each time I end up making it farther and farther and decide to start over. Still haven't finished Awakening because I've made it that far and rerolled a different background and class at least 3 times now.

I hope they expand more on Solas and the Forgotten Ones since that seems to be where the majority of the fuckery that's going on with the source of things came from. I have a theory that the Black/Golden City was actually Elvhenan and the epicenter of the Blight after they kept fucking around and murdering Titans, which theoretically released a sort of proto-Blight as a defense mechanism. Solas saw what was going on and threw up the Veil to seal everything off as a quarantine. This is only something I've been kicking around in my head, though, and I may be misremembering things.

It got so bad that it actually fucked up the story.
I remember one mission where Templars are bullying a mage they know isn't actually a blood mage, because apparently it's the only way they can get an erection.
When you attack them, they pull out around 40 Templars from various crevices, some of which were boss ranked.
This only makes me wonder why the fuck they were willing to hide around for these assholes?
Why did the assholes want them to come?
Why did none of them call the assholes out for wasting their time and fuck off?
Did they tell them she was actually a disguised pride abomination?
Did they actually think she was a pride abomination and only decided to start being assholes when they realised she wasn't?

I had similar reactions to petty street thieves having 20 friends willing to come out and mug you for 20 silver, despite having seen you massacre their buddies with ease.
RPG logic only goes so far before it becomes a farce.
