One of the biggest problems in video games is people "fetishizing" competition. Much like that past article some who gives a fuck wrote about "fetishizing skill." Except not so much as being a whiney faggot over people pointing out you're an idiot. People who play games competitively, or professionally, are complete cancer.

Now I'm not saying that playing against some one to beat them is bad, or that team shooters are shot. However: games that focus on rankings, competitions, and even people who have to strive to BE THE BEST always just suck in a community of aggressive, complaining, and deluded losers. You'll see it in any moba thread, fighting game general, and especially in CSGO about how people brag about their rank in a fixing video game. You'll hear people cry like total children over how it's so bullshit how some one else kills them a lot over a casual game of shit like Insurgency, or Quake.

Fuck even interacting with anyone who goes out of their way to excel at a video game just for the sake of trying to look like they're better. If you don't play them for pure enjoyment then you're shit, regardless of how skilled you are at pressing buttons fast. I know that this is a bait thread, but people like OP are cancerous turds, and attitudes like this jut poison enjoying video games as a hobby.

The cancer is when you simply MUST have humans to win against. That's just evidence that you're too trailer-trash for a fun illusion, so you have to inject an "objective reality" of competition to give it any meaning at all. You could make the most artistic and interesting AI to play against but people will still choose to play with/against a random batch of trash online because they have no connection to illusion.

There's nothing wrong with competitive games, I just don't like them.

I disagree. Sure, learning AI patterns or game engine shortcuts requires dedication and time, but just 1 hour a day of solid, progressive (forgive the buzzwords) activity can make a huge difference.

I've recently noticed my skill declining rapidly. My thinking isn't as fast, my keypresses aren't as accurate, I can't handle thumbsticks as well as I used to, my focus is half-as-good as it used to be, I'm not as precise with my mouse anymore and my reaction time has slowed. Either my brain is turning to mush or I'm just feeling the pain of getting old. It sucks, and I hate it - I'll get outright angry with myself since I know I should've been able to successfully do something but I fucked up hardcore - but I accept it and just try over and over again until I get it. At the end of the day I was always a "For Fun" kind of guy so it works out, but it does eat me up a good bit.

I'm 34 and I kinda just outgrew multiplayer by my late 20s. I haven't even played pine in over 4 years since I moved to a place with only shot internet. I can loop on nuclear throne any time and beat spelunky in under 5 mins so I'm keeping my reflexes sharp.

You can draw sketches in a sketchbook for 20 years, but if you aren't actively trying to get better, you won't see much improvement(compared to those with motivation for it). Same with vidya.
