I might check it out when the series is over. Steven and certain other characters are annoying. Steven fucks up a lot and doesn't learn anything. The crystal gems bail him out then are like "it's okay Steven. You're a goofy kid. Keep being goofy." Older shows have the main character learn lesson, solve the problem and grow up in the process.

I dunno why people are calling the sequel a "successor to Paper Mario." The mobile game did a pretty good job of that, but this seems to take a different approach entirely. There's also the fact that it won't be nearly as good as any of the Paper Mario's, so there's that.

yeah that definitively changes later on, but he still tries to hug problems until they go away, granted that doesnt always work and shit gets fucked beyond belief when it doesnt, i mean seriously, if theres one thing the show knows how to do is how to raise the stakes

but like i said, it takes a while for shit to get really really good, and the show is chock full of filler, if you enjoy the characters like me, you wont mind that much, but if you dont its probably too much to ask you to stick around until FUCKING EPISODE 25 for the story to get good

I feel the opposite, maybe it was like that for a while, but lately Steven is becoming the deepest and most likeable character period. Though that's partly because they fucking RUINED the character of pic related, but at any rate I now exclude Steven from "best gem" discussions because there's no contest in my mind anymore.

Also the show still sucks in general so don't get your hopes up. The characters are too good for the rest of it.
