Everybody will take losses and some of them will feel crushing. The devs designed with this in mind. They want you to rage out and stop playing for the night. They also want you to come back the next day and try again.

If you are gonna die just bail no matter what, because is always better to ser back a couple of weeks healing your best characters than just starting over.
Dont test your luck, if you think you are rolling the dice with that choice 80% of times its better to just not do it.
Have disposable characters, and if you are like me that doesnt like to kill then off just Fire them after you have used then.
Don' get to comfy with your choices because sometimes the game likes to throw some curve balls.
And lastly, if you dont like to grind for 10+ hours just try the radiant mode, i dont think its "casual" but it makes the experience more enjoyable if you dont like to have baby steps in your playtrough

Got fucked completely by the Hag Boss.I had a horrible party for the encounter and was pretty frustrated with the fact I was so helpless against her. Lots of the difficulty is just knowing what to prepare for.

Also, if you see the Eldritch Altar thing, put a torch on it to illuminate the entire dungeon for free.

Always interact with every curio, it's fun.
And always put a torch on the void pedestals for a tough fight with extremely good treasure.

Always overprepare.

RNG may be rough, but you can play around it by getting the best upgrades for equipment and skills on your characters.
You can also get tons of supplies to ensure that you don't get a fucking 16 damage per turn bleed for 5 turns stuck on your healer. Bring plenty of rations, as two random food events can be devastating without enough of it

On this note there's pretty much 2 bosses in this game: kill boss & adds or row 4 DPS race. Some of them mix these elements slightly but that's pretty much how they all work. Once you've fought 1 of each type you've fought every boss in the game so don't worry about experiencing more.

Use the resources the game provides for you like the free levels you get by going hollow. Don't try to do every side quest on the first go around and accept you probably won't get the "good" ending. Just focus on beating the game.

It's perfectly acceptable to just run past enemies in a suicide run to get a good item.

Can someone explain to me the appeal of this game?
I usually like dungeon crawlers mostly for the loot, but this game doesn't even have loot that changes anything about your characters. Their progression is entirely linear, you don't get equipment from doing dungeons, better equipment doesn't change character appearance...

In many games, my favorite moments are those where everything is going to hell, my plan is shot and I'm struggling to keep my head above water with every play, running on prayer and desperation, and I just barely win by a thread, if at all. Very few turn-based games give me anything close to this feeling without some heavy self-imposed challenge. Darkest Dungeon is an entire game that aims to give me that. Even if it doesn't always succeed, the moments that it does makes it all worth it.
