I don't get it.

People are seemingly pissed that Monolith has turned Shelob the spider into a woman 'cause it goes against the lore. Okay, that seems fair.

But what really bothers a lot of people is that Shelob is sexualized and that I just don't understand at all. This picture is taken from a Marysue article bitching about the sexualization.

I just don't get it.

How is this sexualization? It's a woman. She is attractive, yes, but where's the sexualization? Is that sexualization nowadays? A standard dress that women wear? She isn't trying to seduce the protagonist and her dress covers up most of her skin so /v/, help me out here: Where is this sexualization?
>>
Ugly women tend to exhibit jealousy. Rather than come to terms with this, they skirt around their self esteem issues by projecting their woes onto an imagined enemy or problem - something other than themselves. How is this news to you?
>>
She doesn't seem very sexualized.

She is ugly and wearing a lot of clothing.

She looks like a man in drag.
And I'm not even one of those westerners can't make attractive female shitposters, that lady just looks like a drag queen.

The thing is that I have no problem with the complaints regarding the sexualization of women in video games... IF they are actually about the sexualization of women in video games.

I really don't see what the problem is here.
>>
>>389786313
>She is attractive, yes, but where's the sexualization? Is that sexualization nowadays?
In this context, yes, that is sexualization. Shelob is suppoesed to be a creepy ass huge spider. Making something that is supposed to be ugly attractive is sexualization.
>>
>>389789297
So those complaining about the bastardization of the lore would accept this if they made her an ugly woman -- or a man?
>>
>>389786313
She is totally sexualized, look at a spider, now look at her. What would you rather fuck?
>>
>>389789483
So if an adaptation changes the gender of a character from a man to a woman, does that make it sexualization?
>>
>>389789483
wrong place to ask that buddy
>>
Its sexualisation because she used to be a giant fucking spider.
>>
>>389789648
yes it does, and thats why complaining about it is fucking stupid. You put a little kid in a video game now youre sexualizing it for pedos. You just cant give these people any room to argue because they just dont realize how stupid their views are.
>>
>>389786313
Go outside and look at one of the hambeasts out there. The fact that the woman in the game is not a hambeast is sexualization.
>>
I'm okay with it because I couldn't not give a fuck less about the Hobbit canon.
>>
>>389789664
I would pick the spider too
>>
a spider isnt sexy, an attractive woman is.

unless you are attracted to spiders its hard to argue that she WASNT sexualized
>>
>SJWs complain about sexualization
>Nerds and Tolkienfags complain about lore rape

who is wb trying to cater to with this shit
>>
>>389786313
Because they've gone off the deep end and now use "sexualization" as a catch-all.

Soon shoving any woman in a videogame will be sexualization.
>>
>>389790127
the average gamer who doesnt care about lore or feminism
>>
>>389786313
Simply changing a giant spider into a good looking lady is sexualization, because they're using the player being attracted to the spider to justify working with her, instead of just having a talking spider or something. It's also a bad picture, she's rather accentuated and spends quite a lot of the time snuggling up to Talion and ear whispering him, which is also sexualization.

After hearing the devs logic behind the change (in the books Shelob's mother or whatever "chose" to take the form of a spider so theoretically Shelob could shapeshift if she wanted) I'm less upset about that and more upset about how the developers are apparently motivated to do this by a fan theory that Shelob was actually trying to "help" the Hobbits by taking the Ring herself to destroy and she wasn't trying to kill them at all.
>>
who seriously listens to loudmouth feminists anyway? Aren't they generally seen as nuisances everywhere?

Yeah they'd still be pissed. Even if it wasn't a woman, they ruined a potentially interesting dynamic. What's the point of taking the deadliest being in all of Middle Earth and turning it into Morrigan or anything else?
>>
>>389789409
If it was an ugly woman, then, yeah it'd probably be fine, but I'm talking those swamp witches from The Witcher 3 ugly. If it was a man, then that would be a lore bastardization too, just in a different way.
>>
>>389790391
its extremely popular that's why

did you miss the 10 years worth of movies?
>>
>>389790228
This

The game will sell 10+ million copies and get a bunch of money through the microtransactions.
>>389790391
Because there's a difference between "Tolkien fans" and "Lord of the Rings fans." The movies made a shit ton of money, even the Hobbit films.
>>
>>389790404
You could always play the game and find out. ;)

Or just read a story synopsis after the game comes out.
>>
>>389786313
What really jimmies my rustles is the fact that people rather bitch about that and not the microtransaction bullshit wb pulled. The microtransaction thing was forgotten one week later but complains about Shelob are still relevant
>>
>>389790965
The microtransactions got overshadowed when they made a tribute character for one of their deceased devs, and then decided to sell it as fucking dlc. Part of the money goes to the devs family, but only in some states, and only inside the U.S.
If you were to buy it outside the U.S. all the money would go to WB.
>>
>>389789297
That's a limp argument. Beauty is power. If Shelob, one of the most powerful beings around in the Third Age, has the power to shift her appearance, in this iteration, then there's absolutely no reason for her to appear as a wizened old hag. She wants to be alluring, to be enticing, so as to better manipulate the protagonist. She couldn't do that as a swamp witch the same way Galadriel or whoever wouldn't be innately enticed by a hypothetical Sauron if he was disguised as a hunchback.
>>
>Mary sue

Found the problem, all they do is bitch about made problem and a gaggle of other horseshit.
>>
>>389791325
WB is getting greedier and greedier, they're almost at Squeenix levels of jewery
>>
>>389790965
I've never understood why people complain about microtransactions for in-game items that can just as easily be acquired by playing the game. They seem more like a crutch for stupid people that are bad at the game than anyone with two brain cells.
>>
>>389791479
LotR movies taught me that Shelob is a mindless spider who enjoys eating hobbits, spinning webs and birthing more spiders. Not a powerful witch bent on world domination

While on the topic of the game, did anyone really enjoy shadow of mordor? I thought it was so fucking dull and forgettable in terms of combat/general gameplay the landscape was plain and boring, music forgettable, amd your usual by-the-numbers open world checklist, but the nemesis system made me sit through the end
>>
>>389792269
It sounded to me like it was just rare items that you'd get of warchiefs through regular play, albeit very high level warchiefs that you'd kill once in a blue moon with random item drops.

Without actually knowing how tedious it is to get those items in-game normally I think it's too quick to just kneejerk freak out about it. Frankly I prefer the idea that games that might be too hard for the "average gamer" include micro transactions so that game companies can make a little extra cash off people that are shit at video games, while people that are shit at video games but with loose cash might try Ninja Gaiden if they can start the game with max health and full upgrades for 9.99.
>>
>>389792552
Correct me
>>
>>389786313
I love LotR and Tolkien in general, and this doesn't bother me. It kind of amuses me that it bothers some other fans
>>
>>389792591
I enjoyed the combat but I'm a sucker for the Arkham formula, so the Arkham formula plus murder was pretty great for me. I also liked actually having assassination missions that were flat out assassinations and not bogged down by the assassins creed nonsense.

The open world was pretty shitty you're right about that though, and I liked aspects of the Nemesis system.

>she is ugly
anon, she might not be dropdead gorgeous, but she isn't ugly or looks like a man. Lay off all the porn and weeb games because you obviously got a warped standard. Go outside and see some real people. She is not below a 7/10.
>>
>>389792598
You make a good point, if your average gamer would rather grab their wallet to get a rare item instead of, dunno, playing the game, then WB made the right choice from a business point of view. But still, I really don't want gameplay altering microtransactions to be a common occurence in single player games. I disliked it in Mankind Divided, I'll probably dislike it in Shadow of War (considering I'll even buy the fucking game)
>>
>>389792848
The thing is, with men it's more about attitude and less about genetics. With women it's like 90% genetics or else an absolute gobton of make up and even then you'll be like a demonic hag who is disguising herself as a beautiful woman and you can't hide that forever. It makes perfect sense for them to want to disparage the desired societal ideal because they can't ever reach it if they're not born with genetic 'good looks'

This series is 10% good ideas, 90% percent lore rape.
Tolkien could power a small city with the energy from all the turning in his grave.
>>
>wear a dress
>WAAAHHHHH SEXUALIZATION
I just watched the trailer and nothing screamed that she was trying to be sexy. If anything I'm confused as to why they passed up on the oppurtunity to have Shelob's union with Talion be disturbing and keep her in Spider form with Talion having to get uncomfortably close to her to communicate. I guess this is supposed to be a projection to make things easier between her and Talion, but it just comes off as contrived and stupid.
>>
>>389792736
Thats fair enough, combat is fluid and organic, it just got old for me after Arkham City
>>
>>389786313
>People are seemingly pissed that Monolith has turned Shelob the spider into a woman 'cause it goes against the lore.

no, someone at monolith jerks off to stoya WAY too much
>>
>>389792870
I don't understand "diehard" fans of something. It's not like this game suddenly makes the book trilogy shit, you know? It's what I keep telling my friends when they ask "If you love Dune so much, how can you read these awful new novels?" I'm just happy that more stuff is being put out there, thus indirectly promoting its source material. Who knows? Maybe someone who plays the game picks up the books, reads them, and likes them.
>>
>>389793305
I do agree it's getting old but like I said adding murder to it at least changed up the animations you saw instead of just Batman breaking someone's leg for the eighth time.
>>
>>389792591
I thought it was a good game -- 7/10 -- but I'm easy to please. The combat is incredibly simple, but I still enjoyed it for the most part. I feel like if I played it again, I'd dislike it. I could see myself thinking the sequel's meh since it looks to be mostly the same game.
>>389792848
That's kinda BS.

Is James Bond James Bond because of his looks or his actions? It's his actions, his accomplishments. Any man can become James Bond because that's what women want: A man who has ambitions, who is confident, who can accomplish something.

On the flipside, what do men want? Men don't care about ambitions or accomplishments of women. They want women who they find attractive. There are many women who no matter how hard they try, literally cannot reach or even come near a man's ideal woman.

And I say all this as a manlet.
