>/v/ keep telling people to "git gud"

>somehow /v/ also hates e-sports, the height of skill and gitting gud
Why such hypocrisy?
>>
>>389761467
1: It's not any of us making money on it. Most of us are middle of the line, at the very least better than a tech journalist trying his hand at polygon.
2: Streaming and esports require knowledge of how that works. None of us do.
3: We understand the futility of everyone wanting to be an e-celeb and don't bother. It's not likely any of us is going to be the next Pewdiepie, despite everyone wanting to be.

Do these count as valid reasons?

its the censorship and marketing that comes with e-sports that is slightly too pervasive.
>>

Well when you have 50 million subs or whatever he has, you're going to see a lot of money. It's not bad to dream of riches. It's more being rich and powerful instead of being some shitty finn who is the sole reason why the Google Crackdown happened.
>>
>>389761887
this desu /v/ will find a reason to hate anything
>>
>>389761467
We hate e-sports because it is the reasons why games are casualized these days.
If the game isn't "e-sports" it won't make any money, therefore it is dumbed down to have mass-appeal.
>>
Because vs/multiplayer games are gay, I want demanding single-player games
>>
>>389761467

>glorifying playing the same game over and over again

Yeah no, fuck off.
>>
>>389761467

I don't hate pros. I just think it's absurd how much e-celebs make. Lirik is pushing for 20,000 subs. He gets $3 per sub. He also makes more in a day from donations than subs. That's more than $1,000,000 a year for streaming on twitch. He used to at least be funny, but now people are riding his dick merely because he's famous.
>>
One should only git gud for internal gratification, not for money and vanity.
>>
because this board is too contrarian to keep up with how contrarian it is

Therefore, you did fell to point this hypocrisy out, so I, /v/, the single entity who posts here will be able to correct my ways.

Yes, that's what the post said.
>>
>>389761467
Casuals are typically bottom of the barrel retards with godawful taste that set the low floor for both technical skill and cognitive ability that lowest common denominator gaming focuses around now.
Git Gud is typically recited when someone is blaming everything but themselves for how shit they play.
E-sports is often just a load of wank and tends to warp the general playerbase of a game that incorporates it into a stale mush of shit as safe metas employed in coordinated play by somewhat competent teams are enforced with an iron fist by the legions of uncoordinated mentally handicapped that play these games and further lead the development team to cater to this shit gameplay, ruining any appeal the game might have had in the first place.
Even if these aren't the non-conflicting specific reasons anyone hates on those specific things it must still be known that /v/ is not a single person but a mass of people with varying degrees of shit opinions and taste and can as such hold wildly conflicting opinions.

I love watching people play games competitively and do so pretty much every weekend.
The only thing I hate about "e-sports" is that it's a shitty term because video games aren't sports and that in the effort to be "e-sports" communities/scenes end up becoming really sterile and plastic.

Because videogames are random. If you know how everything works you simply can't take it seriously. Margin of error, delay (even with LAN connection), miscalculations, no matter how long you optimise, there will be bugs. Especially in games with complex mechanics like shooters.

It's ridiculous that some events have huge price money. At most it should be about a bag of potato chips and some coupons.

they probably also hate how mp games are being tweaked for esport/"competitive" meta balancing.

>>
>>389761467
e-sports are the height of shilling and marketing faggotry, you gay. The only games promoted by esports are the same ones everyone and their mother plays because their entry skill ceiling is for toddlers, and the high level players are good because of autism (high focused repetition of extremely simple shit)

Fighting games from the pre-esports era are the only acceptable form of competitive gaming bu e-sports cancer has killed that, too. Fuck these Monster drinking, Twitch viewer count pandering faggots.

eSports games are mostly comprised of team-based titles with low skill ceilings that effectively cap what one individual player can get done by themselves. With enough effort, one could have the technical skills to become an Invite/Premiere/whateverthefuckthehighestdivisionfortheleague player, but if they are not deeply ingrained into the circlejerk, they're at the same spot as someone who installed the game the other day.

The games that involve individual skill don't get even an iota as much exposure because anyone getting into these types of games don't have a snowball's chance in hell at being on the same level as the top players. SFV gets as much eSports exposure as it does because of the IPs legacy, Capcom's money, and being super casual compared to earlier titles to the point where someone who has played for barely a year can make EVO grand finals.
>>
>>389779569
And let me add that this happens in every type of sport, including real sports like football, boxing and volleyball and second-tier "sports" like swimming, American football and other stuff.
I speak from experience. I used to swim when I was a kid, I was pushed to participate in competitions and you can't believe how smug people are and how ridiculous it looked since even my 8yo self and a few friends of the same age knew there is no future in this garbage. All those retards who believed they could be famous are nothing now.
>>
>>389780153
What bothers some people is the fact that those other people want to be taken seriously i.e. considered real athletes and competitive gaming a real sport. It comes off so desperate and try hard... why can't it be its own thing, even better and more interesting than most sports. Just call it competitive gaming and do your own thing.

Perhaps anon but expecting digital trends to take as long as analog ones is silly. It makes perfect sense how fast esports have grown. Yes, it's full of idiocy but give it a few years.
>>
>>389781525
I don't expect it to take multiple years before someone takes a video game seriously, but developers try to hard to force a competitive scene before the game has proven itself. The new meme is forcing it before the game is even finished.
>>
>>389781441

No, I'm not American.
Basically there was a giant sports program sponsored by big teams and the government in my state when I was a kid and they picked the best in some stuff. 2 passed in the swimming and 5 for football. at least read the post in full. Melee gets a lot of shit for being a stagnant meta where the same people dominate at every tournament, but Melee is one of the few games where you can't luck out a win on a top player. People like Daigo, FChamp, Infiltration, etc. get knocked into losers or out of tournies by "upstart players" who become "literally who"'s not so much as a month after making an upset. You don't really see that kind of shit happen in Melee ever, and if it does, you can bet your ass you'll be seeing the player who managed to clutch a miracle set win over SFat, M2K, Wizzrobe, etc. The consistency of the top to remain the top is a kind of testament of what it means to have individual skill mean almost everything with luck playing a very insignificant factor.

If you don't like Smash, then consider Bemani. If you want a WR in games like DDR, pop'n, or IIDX, you will have to fucking SLAVE over these titles, and only DDR displays WR and the holder's alias in-game. There's no new blood that comes out of nowhere, and the closest thing to it was DDR Ace being made available in the US and a shitton of the best players in NA absolutely demolishing old WRs. Despite being the most skill-based video games out there, Bemani is not eSports because Konami doesn't care and even if they did, there's no way anyone who started playing RIGHT NOW can become a fraction as good as the top players within the next half decade or so since top rankers are still getting better and will probably be at a sub-TAS level by the end of 2018.

Literally how is that an argument? Genuinely interested in knowing. Do you get good at a character within 1 game or something and need to move on to the next, but can't because "paywall"? Aren't you supposed to play like at least 50 games on a character to know them well? And then there's the fact that to become good at the game it's better to just play 1 character for a longer period of time since you can think more about the game instead of the character. Ivan, you really have to step up.

cs 1.6 and starcraft broodwar are esports.
all that other shit is gay.

Esports is a marketing strategy first and foremost. Competition is merely a product of said marketing, and only the babbiest of baby games are touted as esports since they are the easiest to market.

>Dota
>not afraid to design itself around experienced players
>no forced meta, all heroes see picks and bans in major events
>game grew organically and the competitive scene ran for years and years before any company even owned the game

>LoL
>designed to be accessible and streamlined
>strict forced lane and team comp meta, not even half the champions get picked or banned in major events
>runs entirely on Riot's money, Riot employees bossing everyone around at every event

It's completely true though
A "strategy" game where you're only allowed to use one strategy is not a deep or competitive game

Because, like it always has been with literally everything, popularity =/= quality. Retard.

There's a difference between competition and "E-sports"

E-sports is a really forced and inorganic form of competition with showy shit everywhere to attract viewers. It's the same thing with old battle-bots versus new battle bots. It used to be a show about robots fighting each other. Now they have shitty sports casters and and MMA competitors on there talking to female co-hosts about arbitrary stat numbers they made up and assigned to each robot for more time than there is actual battle bots fighting. Older scenes like the street-fighter competition scene in arcades was fine. It grew organically without any of the modern "E-sport" features, but now games track how many times you turned your camera in a match, match making with ELO and the death of dedicated servers, 5v5 teams because anything more or less "didn't do well with test groups" All so they can custom tailor the game to a formula that did well with Game X and they'll be able to make more money if a competitive scene grows so they try to force it so hard. It doesn't mean you hate competitive games to hate what competition has become.
