There's a difference between competition and "E-sports"

E-sports is a really forced and inorganic form of competition with showy shit everywhere to attract viewers. It's the same thing with old battle-bots versus new battle bots. It used to be a show about robots fighting each other. Now they have shitty sports casters and and MMA competitors on there talking to female co-hosts about arbitrary stat numbers they made up and assigned to each robot for more time than there is actual battle bots fighting. Older scenes like the street-fighter competition scene in arcades was fine. It grew organically without any of the modern "E-sport" features, but now games track how many times you turned your camera in a match, match making with ELO and the death of dedicated servers, 5v5 teams because anything more or less "didn't do well with test groups" All so they can custom tailor the game to a formula that did well with Game X and they'll be able to make more money if a competitive scene grows so they try to force it so hard.
