Is pic related worth it? Or is the surround sound feature just a meme? Anyone owns this that can give me an impression?
Also gaming peripherals thread, I guess.

Buy better headphones and a separate mic.
I had one of those for a while, it was comfy and the sound was pretty good but it was real flimsy
An earcup broke off after like 8 months
Went back to my corsair vengeance
I think it's worth the $40 because it comes with a usb adapter. I'm using it right now.

What were the sotfware settings? Read some reviews and most claimed that the Logitech software integration was terrible and had very little options.
>>389747672
i've had like, 3 of them. they served well, sounded well, and the mic was convenient. but, since it's all-in-one, if the speakers break, and the mic works you'll be stuck with an awkward position, especially if you can't buy a new setup. for the consumer, the price point is good, but I saved up some cash and bought studio-quiality headphones on Massdrop, and a 25$ microphone. works great.

Gaming headphones are always a ripoff. Just buy some quality headphones and a good mic, you'll be set.
I had an earlier model and it worked pretty good for me until the damn cable got wrecked.
The logitech software is stupid and I never used it.

>Worth it
no.
Surround sound is literal meme on headsets. You want to get yourself a decent pair of headphones with either a modmic or a desktop mic.

Meant to reply to this anon.

The joint between the headband and the ear cups breaks easily. Do not buy.
>>389748091
That shit looks so fragile and flimsy, holy shit.
>>389747730
Why though? Buying a separate desk microphone is pretty cumbersome compared to just having it on one headset. It's not like OPs pic related is expensive.

> is the surround sound feature just a meme?
Yes it is. Pure marketing bullshit for those who never owned good headphones. "surround sound" isn't just hardware, it entirely depends on the game. The thing became real in the late 90's when 3D finally became a thing, giving devs an idea on how to create sound effect positioning, so that you can actually hear someone step behind your back.
Basically that marketing garbage was selling for crazy dosh when first released, because some jew came up with an idea that if he makes more than 1 dynamic inside each cup, it will somehow improve the sound positioning, which is total and utter bollocks, because the cup size is limited, and 1 huge speaker does the same thing as 3, 5, or sometimes even 7 (depends on the marketers insanity) smaller speakers in the same cup.
Surround sound is the same as if someone sold you a car with 3 small engines combined into one, which deliver exactly the same performance, and then charge double for that.

What would be a good headphone set then?

>>389748167
you can buy a modmic on the cheap

The surround sound stuff can be done is software. Get a regular pair of headphones and an attachable mic instead
Download Razer surround or get a soundcard with dolby surround if you want 'surround sound' on headphones.
Proper HRTFs are better anyway but are super rarely implemented or supported, and they're rarely implemented well.

just buy both mics and headphone from a respectable brand, do you have no tables for the mic or something?
>>389749321
It uses a simplified hrtf to render 7.1 channels into 2.0 for headphones.
It is exactly the same shit that these sound sound headsets do.
>>389749603
But they do absolutely nothing. 1$ internal soundcard is the same as a gozzillion dollar external one. Surround sound is just software, no hardware can create it inside the same 2 headphone cups. The original technology is for cinemas, where they position countless speakers around the hall, to mimic reality. At home with headphones where the sound comes from the same 2 positions, you cannot enchance it no matter what. Advising to spent money on snake oil, especially in this industry, should be punished with chemical castration.

>Surround sound is just software
that's exactly what I've been saying. it's just some people like the bathroom reverb of dolby headphone for some reason.
>>389750495
Then why on earth are you advising to install or buy anything from scammers? Nothing will fix it unless a particular game was designed with the surround sound in mind. If one can't hear it, then it means that headphones are cheap shit which should be replaced for anything that's better.
