Is it worth playing if I loved the sense of exploration, world and atmosphere while fighting normal enemies instead of boss fights most in Dark Souls and Bloodborne?
I usually see people hate on the boss fights in DaS2, I didn't care for them too much in DaS and BB except for one on one sword fights like Gehrman, Artorias and Gwyn or one on one basic monster fights like the Cleric Beast or the Iron Golem which I loved.
>>
yes, even if its the lesser of the 3 its still worth playing if you enjoy the other games in the series

It's a shit game but it's worth playing if you've played all the other entries in the series.

I would recommend Dark Souls 3 over Dark Souls 2 but have it your way.

>one on one sword fights like Gehrman, Artorias and Gwyn
If you liked those then Dark Souls 2 is your dream game because almost every other boss is a big humanoid with a sword. Nothing wrong with them except they're super samey.
>>
>>389732127
I want to buy SotFS, but I'm afraid I won't like it if its slower than DS3. How big is the difference in controls?
>>
>>389732127

DaS2 is a terrible Souls game, but a great game on its own. You won't love it, but there's nothing especially bad about it either.
>>
>>389732695
>if it's slower than 3
It feels slow as molasses. One thing that might contribute to that is that Dark Souls 2 animations are actually motion captured so it's more realistic movement in a sense but it feels a lot slower.
>>
>>389732695

Bigly
>>
>>389732127
Dark Souls II has far better exploration than DSIII and Bloodborne.

Do you mean controls or the overall feeling of movement? Because from my experiences on /dsg/ a lot of people can't articulate well and say control but mean the overall movement.

And it's, as said, slow as molasses. Everything feels like it's happening underwater even compared to Dark Souls 1 and Demon's Souls but especially so compared to Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne.

Damn that sucks. I don't think I could enjoy it if its that slow. Maybe I should have played it before 3.
>>
>>389733336
>maybe I should've played it before 3
Yes. And ideally you should've also played 3 before Bloodborne because I played Bloodborne first and going into Dark Souls 3 after that felt like 3 was a decent game but still a lame Bloodborne copy in some aspects.

Still, 3 is a lot better than shit souls 2.
>>
>>389733467
I will probably play Bloodborne next. Well after I do the DLC for DS3.

Well I don't have a gaming PC or a last gen console anymore so I probably won't be playing DeS or DS1, and if DS2 is as slow as you say I won't be playing that either.

Besides a trustworthy leaker saying that there's something really fucked up going in their relationship and that she's really obsessed with her big brother in an unhealthy way? No, there's no solid proof. But if you've witnessed their interaction together long enough and know the context you just know that they're having a bit of friendly wrestling every now and then.

all the souls games and bloodborne are worth playing

even if dark souls 2 has some questionable design decisions, the odd hitboxes, the somewhat muddled graphics and sometimes uninspired bosses, the overall value of the game still remains enormous

admittedly, you won't get as much value as you would have from it's peak player count days, but the pve content is still fun, especially the dlc's
>>
>>389737396
I'm sure some unironically would. Just like how they say the blade clipped your leg or whatever in that clip and that makes it okay for it to warp you onto the point of it.

I like the Souls games, I've spent a lot of time playing them. I just wish people wouldn't defend and make excuses for flaws in it so that the next one in the series would be more polished.

What's wrong with it?

>>389737663
The Adaptability and the way the dodgerolls work is amazingly stupid. I absolutely loathe the term "artificial difficulty", but it actually feels like the disconnect between the graphical presentation of the rolls and where you hitbox actually is was to make it harder for new players to gauge where their hitbox was and as such make the game artificially harder to live up to the LMAO PREPARE TO DIE hype.
>>
>>389738243
Is it adaptability that made the hitboxes like that? I thought it was just that they didn't know how to actually do proper hitboxes for grab attacks since that's mostly what the problem is with. Never had much of a problem with regular attacks, except for the lack of stagger and tracking on a lot of enemies.
>>
>>389739245
Basically the way Dark Souls 2 rolls works is that when you roll, your hitbox actually lags behind in the place where you started the roll and when the rolling action is complete, the hitbox moves and catches up with your model.

But if you have low adaptability, you can run out of iframes before your rolling action is complete (and thus you can be hit while your hitbox is lagging behind you in the place where you started the roll at) which makes it look like you got hit with attacks that didn't go anywhere near you.

If you remember this and start immediately pumping ADP when you start a new game in Dark Souls 2 it's usually not too much of a problem but there are still some very bullshit grab hitboxes like the Ogres and the DS2 mimics so there are problems with the hitboxes that don't have anything to do with ADP.

There's a very infamous gif of DSP's DS2 playthrough where he opens a mimic chest and stands well clear of the mimic, yet when it opens it grabs him anyway.
>>
>>389739890
I wonder if they did all this stuff on purpose to make it seem more challenging, because they knew most people wouldn't care about fake difficulty because they all just wanted to brag about how gud they git.
>opens a mimic chest and stands well clear of the mimic, yet when it opens it grabs him anyway.

>This is a feature, not a bug. Mimics are magical assholes. They don't care about hitboxes
>This is intended, meaning the mimic is supposed to do (and in fact, actually does) an aoe attack (like Force) that stuns you if you're nearby when it opens, then it eats you. So it does not just grab you, it has a 360 degree aoe stun when it opens.

I'm pretty much certain they did all the features that fuck over newbies because Dark Souls 2 was supposed to be "hard".

Adaptability in particular was a "fuck the newbie" mechanic but there were other things as well like the durability system fucking you over at the beginning of the game but barely mattering past the earlygame.

I think you would like the bosses in ds2, especially the dlc bosses.
As for atmosphere it's hit and miss, but exploration is done well, and feels rewarding.
If you play on ps4, it's often on psn sale for 7-15 euros, and the online is still active.

>Adaptability in particular was a "fuck the newbie" mechanic

Frankly, i-frames was a "fuck the newbie" mechanic in the first place. People like to make out like just being able to roll straight through attacks is a standard game thing but it really isn't and when you discover just how OP rolling is in these games you can't help but wonder why they ever even bothered putting shields in it in the first place, much less dozens of different types of shields.

>le rolling is op
Did you only play Dark Souls 3 by any chance? Because Dark Souls 1 makes you strip down to under 25% of your max equip load and sacrifice a ring slot to get maximum iframes, rolls are more costly and armor actually matters in Dark Souls 1 so going with light armor and iframing through shit requires inherently more effect and is a bigger sacrifice.

DS3 plays more like Bloodborne and BB didn't have shields because the focus was on evasion.

Dark Souls 3 is actually the only one I haven't played.

Rolls are absolutely OP when compared to blocking and have been since Demon's Souls. Are you seriously going to try to claim otherwise? You don't even need max i-frames in DaS1, the frames you get from being half encumbered, which is what you will be with all but the absolute heaviest tank armor, is more than enough 99% of the time. I actually just did a play through of Dark Souls the other day and while wearing the elite armor with no special rings I rolled my whole way through the game with no issue. The only time I actually needed to drop the armor to get the few extra i-frames was the Manus fight. And rolling through his fight is a fuckload easier than trying to fight him using a shield.

SotFS is like $11 right now.

Went back to it and realized that I like it as much as all the others. What sets it apart, truly, is the massive amount of armor diversity and the best magic system across all three games. Coming from 3, it made me really appreciate what rolls are supposed to be like.

Adaptability isn't a "bug" it was completely intentional feature of the game. Whether you think it was good or bad is up to you but by calling it a bug you just show your ignorance.

The shield one is bad, but the one you posted (and for that matter the infamous ogre grab) are a bit more understandable because you CAN see the blade actually hit the character (or the ogre brush them with their hand). Does it look garbage when it moves you to the sword? It sure as fuck does.

I still like DS2 more than DS3 though.

You'll enjoy 2 based in what you're looking for. It has the most expensive world, as well as that easily the best combat in the series. Anyone who says otherwise is either trapped in nostalgia from 1 or is a newfag and just started playing with 3. It also has the best DLCs so get SotFS. It's been my favorite game out of 1, 2 and 3 so far and I've ran through all of them multiple times.
