This honestly really soured me with the game. I mean, I enjoyed it somewhat while playing it. But the entire game felt like a cocktease of a better game that could have been. I also think it makes for pretty atrocious storytelling that is the opposite of immersive.

Spend time watching some excavations. Talking with the other champions. Master Sword so durable it can defeat dozens of monsters including multiple Lynels. The Hyrule Field houses and Lon Lon ranch will still be standing.

Since BotW takes place 10,000 years after OoT, I believe the next Zelda game will mostly likely take place before BotW. That's just a lot of time that Nintendo skipped.

It would be cool of you could go back in time and re-explore what the map looked like and see the changes overtime but it would be a lot of work for them to do.

I'm really hoping this is what one of the dlcs will be. Allow you to experience the events 100 years ago as you fight an increasingly losing war. Then it could end like in the final memory with Link going super saiyan with the master sword and fighting off an army of guardians before he finally falls.

The Switch couldn't handle something like Link's last stand with hundreds of guardians in the middle of densely populated castle town with everything burning and crumbling. Korok Forest slows the game to a crawl so imagine what I just described actually running at an acceptable framerate.

Skyrim is literally one of the big inspirations for BOTW.

I'm convinced a lot of games wpuld be much more interesting if we played during that cataclysmic event everyone says totally happened that set today's events in motion.

At least then the game could have a sense of progression. The story stops developing after the intro and doesn't start again until the final boss. The flashbacks happened 100 years ago and don't affect what I'm doing currently so why would I care about them?

I keep holding out hope that the Champions DLC will be Link meeting them and doing a real temple in each of the four Champion's areas.

It can't be that hard, the world is already built, they just need to add some cut scenes and a design 4 temples built into existing structures. Something that should have been in the game to begin with.

We don't know where in the timelines it's in, only speculate where you could argue for at least a couple of timeline placements (probably more for all I know). Or has Nintendo come out and said something yet?

The guardians and divine beasts are from 10000 years ago where they were actually used successfully. Ocarina of Time didn't have those, ergo BotW can't be 10000 years after it.

BoTW takes place more than 10,100 years after Adventure of Link (Zelda II). It's likely that at least one resurrection and Ganon defeat happened after the events of Zelda II. BoTW could very well be Zelda IV, V or even XI in the downfall timeline.

(aka, the timeline left without a hero when Link travels back to the past to enter the Spirit Temple)
