Was this a fluke? Will we ever see another fps with a good single

Wolfenstein just had an acclaimed campaign, an expansion pack, and a sequel out in a month and a half.

Which Wolfenstein would you recommend? I've heard enough about it at this point that I figure I should try it - but there are so many of the games I'm not sure which to play.

You can pretty much just jump in with New Order. There's a few callbacks to games like 3D, Return or '09 but you don't really need to play them since there's enough left to implication or outright stated that you won't get lost in the story.

3D hasn't aged as well as Doom, but it's still worth at least messing around with.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is great in its own right.

'09 is pretty mediocre though.

Pure singleplayer shootans are dead for the most part. NuDoom is alright although it's nothing like Doom in terms of gameplay.

If you like TNO/TOB then try Syndicate from the same dev before part of them went to MachineGames - it has an infamous BLOOM shit, but it's actually a better shootan with more challenging gameplay and somewhat competent AI.

Almost every enemy in the game has a designated weakpoint or something to bypass its enormous durability. If you're just pouring ammo into something you're retarded.

The only enemy that's flatout a bulletsponge is Mecha Deathshead's final stage and at that point it's very obviously a homage to FPS bosses in general.

It's linear but every skirmish arena is large enough to accommodate multiple flanking routes, or alternative paths to augment stealthy approaches. Just because you don't have to dryhump everything in the world for keycards and cross enormous amounts of dead space at 300 miles per hour doesn't make it a bad game.

Yes, OP, this is it. This is the final last good FPS forever. As I type this, they're already shutting down production on all new AAA FPS games. Indie devs already shut up shop a long while back.

Hell, I was just in EB Gamestop earlier today and the only thing they had in their Shooters section was DOOM on every console and PC, with a big COMING SOON under the Nintendo Switch section.

What a truly amazing time to be alive where we can bare witness to this historic event in this, our favorite hobby.

Speechless. Absolutely speechless.
