Dont see a thread up but it just happened. PUBG hits 1mil concurrent users, HOW THE FUCK DID THIS HAPPEN. Most of /v/ never heard of this game until a few months ago. It's just awesome to see an unknown game have a Cinderella story huh

What amazes me is that games like CS still have the same number of players it had a few months ago, I guess those faggots really don't get tired of that shit.
>>
>>389645567
when was the last time a non-valve game was #1 on steam with player count then? i been posting on /v/ for years
>>
1 million CCU is insane, but the fact it's still growing is even more noteworthy. History is being written rn.

Only one other game has ever reached 1m concurrent users on Steam and that's Dota 2.

I've never played PUBG but it's a ridiculous achievement.
>>
>>389645745
And dota is f2p
>>
>>389645745
CS did that too when people were waiting for crate drops in a major.
>>
>>389645745
dota 2 is awful tho
pc players have such bad taste its unreal
>>
>>389645605
I'll never forget that factoid that said when the Overwatch open beta weekend happened, most big-title games on Steam suffered an average 15% population drop, except for DOTA.

CS:GO peaked at 850k according to Steamcharts and I can't see anyone claiming it ever reached 850k concurrent users

And remember Dota 2's record was during special events and shit. PUBG isn't F2P and is doing it because people enjoy playing it, no gimmickry.
>>
>>389645745

And I'm pretty sure that's because you could watch dota tournaments inside the client, something not available in the pubg client.

Most "flavours of the month" would be happy to sell 10m copies at $30 each.

Even if it never sold another copy, that's crazy.

Think of all the extra money they will make once they add microtransactions.

I'm still convinced someone big is going to shell out the billions to buy it for strategic reasons.
>>
>>389646000
Believe me, It reached 1m+ CCU while the major was being played, the event itself got like 3m people watching.
It wasn't anything like PUBG though.
People are actually playing this piece of shit.

>>
>>389646321
I don't have it, but people like it because it's very accessible for what it is. As mentioned many times before, PUBG is held up as basically the best battle royale game to date, mostly because it boils it down to the most critical parts (salvage equipment on the ground, kill other players in an ever-shrinking arena, can leave immediately if your game is over).

I've been saying for months that this is the most important FPS game since CoD4:MW.
It's the most important multiplayer game since WoW. WoW wasn't the first MMORPG, but it was the first one to be a runaway success selling millions upon millions of units, and every MMO afterwards was compared to WoW and adopted many features from it.

PUBG is the combined COD4/WoW of this generation.

Oh fuck I guess Halo 3 isn't an FPS because sometimes the camera is third person!

PUBG has first person only mode, and in the third person mode you have BOTH cameras to choose from. It's an FPS with TPS elements.

it's ACTUAL shilling in action. Huge companies such as blizzard and valve are trying to smear campaign the game. The devs are independent and don't have a lot of money, and rather spend their income improving the game instead of countering the shills. It's a lot like Trump really

What is there to talk about? The gameplay has a very simple premise. The fun comes from the unpredictable situations you find yourself in. It's literally emergent gameplay, it's not programmed in, rather a result of 100 players reacting to a world that is literally never exactly the same as any other.

I think it's been a case of right place, right time. They've swooped in at the peak of this Streamer centric, survival arena game type.
I haven't played it, but it seems like a reasonabley put together game that caters for the people who like that sort of thing.
I don't think it's going to stay as popular but I think it won't disappear either.
>>
>>389651554
GO died due to lack of content and poor server infrastructure, resulting in most people not being able to connect at peak times. Given, they had a very simple and effective advertisement campaign prior to its far-too-early launch as well as a massive consumer base to appeal to.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see how/if PUBG retains their current playerbase, as the only comparable game - in gameplay and popular attention from streamers - I can think of is DayZ and everyone knows why that died. They really don't need to change anything major gameplay-wise and probably won't in order to not alienate their playerbase. It's just a matter of sucking as much money out of them as possible now.
