Every animation in Xrd or DBFz is composed with different 3D models.
It's not just ONE 3D model doing all the animations like in any other games, there is a shit ton of models to compose one single animation. Every model is hand made like with a sprite in 2D, so they add shadow, light and deformation so they rig almost every frame of every model to make the look as much like sprites as possible, making a 3D game look as 2D unless the camera shifts for a dramatic shot.
