It has great atmosphere.
I played it when I wasn't so familiar with the Vampire setting and it was a lot of fun to explore that whole world.

Just pirate and patch it and give it a shot.

The real draw of the game is the writing. It really pulls you into the setting of World of Darkness. It's going to be a bit janky, but it is worth dealing with the jank since the characters are so great.

This game is good because you got a lot of options and great dialogue btw, only downsides are its buggy af and there are some complete fight levels, which doesnt work well if you have a weak character in fighting(malkavian)

If you have the latest version which is 9.8 I think it should be pretty simple to get working. If you're using the GoG version I know it comes with a patch preinstalled and that might be causing some problems.

Ranged combat is fine, melee is still fun with the disciplines and having to feed, especially if you go stealthy. Saying a game is linear isn't a proper criticism, it's like how "not open world" was an overused criticism like 10 years ago for every other game.

I never cared about actual roleplaying in an RPG before I played VtMB, it has a good dialogue system and even though the characters are over the top, they're still mostly believable. Multiple ways to complete a lot of objectives keeps it fun and interesting too.

It is about the interesting setting, the characters, the locations and how the game allows you to interact with these in a variety of ways, including combat, granted not all parts are perfect, but it allows the player to express himself through his gameplay choices.

Planning on doing a first playthrough real soon, should I use just the basic patch or the plus content aswell? I dont think I will be replaying the game anytime soon and I dont want to miss out on any cool stuff.

Intimidation doesn't work as often as persuasion but it's still worth it if you just want to focus on the roleplaying. There's also one instance where intimidation works better than persuasion: when you have to find the guy in his apartment and send him back to Pisha. You can persuade him to go back and tell him it was a joke which costs you a humanity point, but with intimidation you can scare him into leaving town and never talking about it again which doesn't lower humanity.

You are comparing a regular ass mage with the end bosses of Vampire, Archmages could delete them from existence.
