It's a way to create demand by controlling supply. People want to do the thing just because it's something they can't do all the time.

Two reasons I see, not that these necessarily make it worth it. First, constricting the playerbase to a few modes keeps queue times low and ensures there's always a population to play with (more important now that matchmaking is regional). Second is that it forces players to play on various maps and different modes. Playing dust 2 or nuke town over and over gets pretty dull. Then again, I do truly hate some of the maps and wish I didn't have to play them.

Wow, holy shit. Not even that guy, but there's nothing wrong with questioning corporate decisions. Sometimes developers are wrong. They might have a skewed vision of what people want. Without criticism, how would they know to change it? Look at the Gravity Suit in Other M (arguably the whole game). The developers "vision" was shitty and out of touch with what almost the entire player base wanted.

And you're wrong. It might not matter much for the current game outside of word of mouth for people on the fence, but unpopular decisions in the a game CAN lead to lost sales in a sequel. I'm not saying it's the case here, but implying you should just be quiet about something you dislike is stupidly naive.

Moray Towers and Port Mackerel were my least favorite maps in all of Splatoon and they somehow brought back both. Honestly I wish they'd just not pad out the maps with rehashes. They said Splatoon 2 will end up having more maps than the first game, but that's not really gonna be true if half the maps end up being from the first game.
