I personally have never seen a "great" cutscene. Most range from "Unobtrusive" at best to "Jarring" at worst.

Well I liked how the majority of the game didn't have them so when a cutscene did show up it meant a world changing event was happening. "Jarring" in a good way because theyre so rare

And then they were just cool and had story to them like how Ornstein and Smough treat each other in the middle of the boss fight.

Halo 2 or 3 would be my best nomination.

I always liked the Half Life approach with first person cutscenes, although some can be a bit boring

I can only think of good cutscenes when they are pre-rendered or really funny. In engine cutscenes are mostly gross.

Jak and Daxter, and Devil May Cry 3 cutscenes hold up because they're fun.

Half life had the advantage that you could just run past some nerd giving exposition if you didn't care.

Half Life 2 trapped you in rooms where they droned on for 10 minutes, which was a real pain in the ass if you wanted to replay the game

The cinematography in MGS5 GZ and PP is fucking great, no matter what else you think of the game.

Final Fantasy XII has some godly voice acting and whenever I remember this cutscene exists I just have to go and immediately watch it again
