Have you gotten any better at videogames since you first started playing or do you still suck?

I don't have the quick reflexes I used to have, so I've gotten worse.

>People constantly whine that fighting games are way too hard.
>Have a minor interest in the genre, as I like competitive games but hate team games where PRESS Q TO WIN
>Decide to get SF5 at it's launch and get good.
>After a tiny bit of practice, dedication, research and playing the game regularly, I am now good.

Why don't you join me, /v/? You always complain about games being casualized over the years, but refuse to play the only genre of gaming that has kept the same, hardcore as fuck, competitive nature since the 90s.
>>
If anything I've gotten worse, especially at basic puzzles

I have a university degree and if I replay an old game I'll struggle with things I completed effortlessly as a child
>>
>>389479142
So good that games are becoming boring. I wish I was joking. Now a days I have to give myself a handicap just to feel the illusion of being pressured into being good.

Of course, the times where I do worse is when I fall out of practice or haven't put enough time into whatever it is I'm playing. I'm not great but I do improve and do better than I did when I was younger in most games

I'm currently trying to get better at Battle Operation NEXT, I need something to tide me over until Gundam Versus comes out
>>
>>389479569
Yeah, when you're a kid thinking outside the box is a lot easier because you haven't had years piling on top of each other using the same methodology for practically everything, cementing your view that there's one obvious solution for everything.
At least that's what happened to me.
>>
>>389479142
I have improved a little, but at least I don't rage as much as I did when I was a kid. I remember biting on a DS cartridge because of how frustrated I got at the game.
It still worked afterwards, but still, that was a really dumb thing to do.
>>
>>389479142
Yes
unlike /v/
>>
>>389479142
At singleplayer games yes, but not at multiplayer games.
>>
i've gotten better across the board and can keep a level head in most pvp situations

but i still get mad at fighting games because i'm suck
>>
Not really, I mean I've gotten better in a general sense. I've always been able to pick up most things and get fairly decent at them very quickly, but I have never been able to get VERY good at them, no matter if it's multilayer or single player.
>>
>>389479142
I've gotten much worse on reflexes as time goes on but I am getting much better at games that require a bit of cognitive thought. Like going from CoD to Total war to some MUDS.
>>
I got worse in shooters thanks to Overwatch. I fucking hate that game but want to justify my 20$ necause it would be a waste. Semms lile I am lying to myself at this point. Whenever I play Overwatch I get extremely mad and smash my fist on my desk.
Fighting games are not problem at all because it's easy to get into.

>>
I am generally better than earlier years because of a better attitude towards improvement and research.
Reflexes are generally worse as I got old, but not by too much. Still struggle to on-react inputs on fighting games, I have to play mostly from planification and style-reading.
Problem solving has gotten much better tho. I played Infinifactory a few years ago and got to like the third or fourth area and got forever stuck. I started that same game a week or so ago and got to the point I was in the earlier play through on a few hours and with better results.
>>
>>389479142
I haven't improved at puzzle games or FPS.
or fighting games.
or racing games.
or strategy games.
I got very, very good at Dark Souls however. For what that meme of a game is fucking worth.
>>
>>389479540
SF5 is shit. 3rd Strike through fightcade is the best atm.

Never been better, I started when I was three with Mario 64 and could barely get into the paintings and in Ocarina of Time Jabu Jabu's Belly scared me from completing the game until I was 10
>>

My video game skill peaked when I was about 17 and I've just been getting worse and more impatient ever since then. All I do now is play multiplayer shit so I can just drop in and out of games and not really commit to anything.

but i'm sucking old dick with Sonic Mania's UFO chase shit, even miss the final 3 emeralds in the first run of the game

I've gotten pretty good in league, decent in 1.6, GO is cancer and I can hold my own in older arena shooters(don't have HW for the new ones).

I could never get into fighting games though, I don't feel like buying an expensive controller specifically for fighting games if I don't know I'll enjoy them and I can't do anything on my 360 controller.

Do all you guys who play fighting games have arcade sticks or how the fuck do you do all those fucking motions that precisely and fast on anything else? Do you use the analog sticks or the d-pad or keyboard?
>>
>>389486627
Let me guess, trouble with 5? If so, you are not the only one. It's actually inconsistently hard and it's not even the last one so most people grab 4 Emeralds and quit their hunts there because of the nightmare SS5 is. It actually took me like 7 tries to get it for the first time. 6 and 7 are annoying at most because of falling off the map but that's all.
As for Blue Sphere, that thing was my fucking jam too. Playing Mania's first time was weird because I'm used to the input lag the original 3&K levels have, as in Mania you turn instantly after doing the input. Now I've got better at it of course, but learning how to master it was a pain since 8 out of 10 times I'd miss and go into a red one.
>>
>>389486347
Before I got into SFV I played Third Strike extensively.

Third Strike is good on the low-mid tier of play, but once you get to high level play the entire game is an unbalanced, broken fucking mess. If you played fighting games, you'd fucking know this.
>>
>>389486960
>Let me guess, trouble with 5?
yes
FUCK SPECIAL STAGE 5
I actually NEARLY got to the emerald thanks to a new conservative strategy on prioritizing rings and getting the one thing that adds my Mach gauge to one level.

but i slipped in the very open edge of the track
I WAS LITERALLY RIGHT THERE
>>
>>389487358
>FUCK SPECIAL STAGE 5
Completely agree. I already said what I think above, but that single sentence sums up everything.
In 10 years, people will post it on their PTSD threads. Just wait.
>>
>>389487358
Forgot to mention, I feel bad for you. My condolences. If you are still stuck at it, good luck. Unless you already beat it like 1 week ago.
>>
>>389486839
Newcomer to fighting games as well. I been having some decent success with keyboard, and I been told that the transition to a Hitbox once I decide to take the jump is pretty painless.
My other option is to get something like a hori fighitng commander that are not that expensive but still great.
also, check fightcade for practice.
>>
>>389479142
Much much much better
>>
>>389479142
I really love guilty gear but I feel like I've got into it too late
skill obviously comes with playtime but I don't know how much longer I'll have the motivation to improve
>>
>>389479142
On the whole, yes.
I'm still shit at strategy games but I still love them.
>>

I'm good. Pretty good. Always been good for a long time since at a very young age I played vidoya, but over the past year my skills have degraded; Either because I'm getting older or because I just play Overwatch and main Mercy all the time since I like how relaxing it is and I enjoy healing.

When playing the Destiny 2 Beta I never realized just how poor my aiming was since having been playing something requiring no real accuracy for so long.

But fightcade as a plataform is pretty cool as it allows me to set up matches with other low level players such as real life friends or this other anon.

I try and play csgo but my brain doesn't work fast enough

I peek out and I'm slow as shit so I get clothes lined. Enemy peeks out at the speed of light and 1 taps me.

It's weird cause when I hold angles with an awp I'm fast as fuck. Like I look at my demos and count the ticks and it's like 200 ms

Both. I still suck but I suck a lot less than when I was a kid. I can beat most games I play but I've never gotten to the end of a roguelike, I'm not going to get max rank in any Kamiya games, and I'm not going to beat anyone who knows how to play at a fighting game any time soon. I'm just trucking along and trying to git gud at shmups.

I've gotten better at everything except fighting games and FPS.
I was Cuphead Journalist-retarded when I was a kid, my trial and error process was very slow and involved many failed attempts that would be described as "banging head against wall".
When I became 20 I started picking up on new concepts much quicker (in and out of games), and my relfexes somehow got better.
>>

Why didn't you just use those skills to dominate you brother and his shitlord friends?
>>
>>389479142
I've gotten pretty good with FPS games but I still suck dicks at fighting games. I think it might just be impossible to do it right without a fucking joystick controller.
>>
I have the oncommings of parkinson's. When I was younger, all I would play was Team SWAT on Halo and platformers. I fucking aced them. My reflexes are very fast, but my motor coordination doesnt line up sometimes. I can have moments where it's not a problem, but then have moments that I just cant do anything properly.

It's shitty too because the games I enjoy require accuracy. People are always shocked when I lower the sensitivity on console shooters. Everyone else maxes it out.

I did.
But then they wanted me to play with them online to see my skills in action. Then their friends wanted to play with me and their friends and it became an endless chain of clowns looking for me to bail their asses out from being garbage to the point where I just abandoned my old account and made a new one just so people would leave me the fuck alone.

Got to play MW2 with some of the Edmonton Oilers as a result, which was actually pretty fucking great as they were all surprisingly good.
