I take my switch with me over to my family's place when I'm not playing at home. Super easy, doesn't require save backups or lugging around a huge brick.

It's honestly the best thing i think could have happened to the gaming industry, and I hope every home console goes this route seeing as consoles are being rendered useless thanks to PC. Being able to take your game away from being stationed is a huge plus and why the console is a massive success. I don't really entirely understand why the Switch is succeeding either. By all accounts it's just another Wii U. Same underperforming hardware, same crappy online, same lack of third parties, same poor release schedule, same lame gimmicks. Along with a host of other problems like poor battery life, paid online, high rate of defects (at least at launch). Nintendo haven't managed to convince me they're improving at all.

The only real difference I think is that this time they actually marketed it properly so that people knew what it was, and it had a strong launch title to move systems with. That's really it. Just goes to show how big the influence of effective marketing really is.

My problem with the switch is the games. It's been 6 months and the only game I'd get for it is BotW...still. I guess I could get Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon, but those wouldn't really excite me too much because I already played MK8 on Wii U, and Splatoon 2 only mildly interests me.

Yes it failed, but they watched very closely the people that used the console, what features they liked and didn't like.

They threw Async Multiplayer out of the window soon after launch. But they then realised people loved the off-tv play feature of the Wii U.

So more and more games incorporated it.

People loved the Amiibos, so they went full force with it.

The Switch has these concepts taken further. The Wii U was held back by the fact it's tethered to the console. The Switch can literally go anywhere but can be docked if needed.

Plus it has the additional appeal of being convenient for multiplayer too.
It scales up the more devices you have.

To be honest, I am with him. I am not buying Switch, I am fairly satisfied with functionality of my tablet on which I get to play Legend of Grimrock, Xcom, increasingly better Capcom ports (they really did learn their lesson after Ace Attorney).

I prefer to play my console games at the comfort of my home and when console's entire gimmick doesn't appeal to me that much, I'll just wait until it's literally bargain bin price or have enough good games for me to play. Pokemon were specifically like sorry we havent worked in HD before. Game freak are fucktards with technology. There is nothing wrong with SM's art direction, but just look at the mess jump to 3d X and Y are. all things considered, they are still being out paced by way smaller companies say Atlus, and Gust (to be fair gust works with stronger systems), but also it's competitors have a stronger focus on art direction too like Level 5. And that's just for art direction. Game freaks coding abilities are worrisome at best. And their lack to innovate is always a ehhh, but at least they have a template. I don't know how or why they can fuck up as hard as they have been for the last 3 games when they have such a structured template.
