This is the only true answer. I actually bought a box full of as-is SNESes from ebay for about $100 and was able to piece together a couple of perfect condition consoles. The one I kept looks brand new and is clipped for Japanese cart use as well.

It's the same nostalgia and confirmation bias that leads people to believe the Playstation was better than the N64. Objectively, both the PS1 and Genesis did a thing or two better, it comes down to games and again objectively, pre Wii Nintendo always had better games.

I feel like PSX vs. N64 was a lot less black and white. (also had both).
N64 graphics were by far easier on the eyes. It definitely did 3d better. But the laughable space limitations the cartridges had really screwed them out of a lot of great titles. I remember renting the N64 port of Resident Evil 2 out of morbid curiosity and the audio was just ghastly.
I've always favored good audio over good visuals and PSX definitely won in the audio department since N64 was still using midi style music and PSX had full CD type music available. And when PSX did need to be visual it could use FMV as a crutch, and indeed FMV's eventually became a sort of "reward" for reaching certain points of gameplay.
In terms of "mascot" titles then sure, I'll take Mario and Zelda over Crash Bandicoot any day.

But other than the laughably bad ports of all the old Final Fantasy games, PSX won the JRPGs of the era. And Sega Saturn is just gay and not worth mentioning. My friend had a Saturn. Nothing really felt noteworthy about it.

I see people say this a lot, but the yellow isn't just discoloration, its science shit. The plastic is basically turning to dust. Paint won't hold it together, you have to reverse the process first.
