What were they trying to go with the PS2 aesthetics? It always felt terrifying when I was younger being in the same room as the tv when the PS2 was in the menus.
>>389448905
The steam link also gives me similar vibes. It's depressing but creepy at the same time. I don't know why Valve thought this was fitting.
I miss console menus with strong identities.
it was a future aesthestic, they wanted the PS2 to feel like a piece of hardware from 2020
I would pay money to have a screen that displays the PS2 clock.

Steam big picture has a nice aesthetic and has identity

this ones autistic but I love it so much. It's such a mess of early 2000's design. I sometimes miss the big chunky stylized ui of the 90's-2000's. Now all ui is tiny and minimal, bland as fuck.

someone rewind what it says at 1:24 what the fuck you can hear it really quietly.

do you guys think thats what new consoles are missing...a sense of identity.
I think the x1 and ps4 have absolutely no identity, the wii u however does.

>>389449319
How the fuck does it even work? Does it just display the hour?
>>389449835
i prefer the wii's aesthetic, its like the console is from a sterile room or something.

What you talking about. This ps4 theme is nice as fuck and has a ps2 kinda vibe to it.

The bars are the hours and the floating circles are the minute hand.
>>389450065
Watching a video now and the circles just keep spinning all over the place
>>389450127
>>389450065
Seems like the bar starts off full then empties, I guess those are the minutes

I know the clock you nigger, I just never actually bothered to study it in detail, the hour keeping was obvious but I only just now realized that the bar empties as time passes

I have one of the early PS2s that suck at reading dual layer games, several red screens were my daily dose.
Does anyone care about the Vita's skittles
I never bothered with them much
>>389448905
It sounds cool, I don't know how people could be this scared by it.
>>389450464
Mine stopped reading DVDs altogether. Shit sucks.
>the towers at the start up represent the file sizes of saves on your memory card

That shit only displayed on my PS2 properly within this last year.

It's actually very complex. They have it patented. I don't know why they don't throw it somewhere in all PS hardware.

how many people heard about that one though
It's a shame that Sony don't put one similar to this up on the PSN store. I have more money than sense, so I'd pay a couple of bucks for it.

>Being terrified of abstract shapes and sounds
I never understood this. I imagine people like this are also scared of their own shadows.
>>389451614
How is abstraction not something to be scared of? Abstraction is something completely unknown in the real world so if done right can be creepy because it's unnatural. The black void of the UI combined with the music and floating orbs is somewhat creepy.

Tell that to all the people terrified of TV idents:

You got mental problems, my friend.
>>389452069
Why?
>>389451893
Because it can't effect you in anyway? No matter how much you think of it, an abstract object can't harm you. You might fear doing something because it might hurt you. You might fear eating something new because it might taste bad.You might be scarred of others because of how it could emotionally effect you. And you might even be scared by a movie because you think "that could happen to me" regardless if it's supernatural or not. In no way can an abstract object effect you physically or mentally. Not even in a Lovecraftein "my brain is melting" kind of way. Even fear of the unknown is meant to be taken in a tangible way.

Britfag here.
I used to be afraid of the older BBC logo when I was younger. The one from the 90s. Where it had a black background with green, red and blue lines. The music also helped it feel more terrifying. It used to creep me out as a kid, especially when it plays at the beginning and end of a Pingu VHS I would watch sometimes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaxlFQTTlLk
There was also another TV indent I was scared of. I can't remember the name of the company, but it was at the very end of a VHS for a Peter Rabbit cartoon I also watched as a kid. I remember it having a 3D blue logo, and it started by the camera travelling through the logo in front of a dark background. I would leave the room before it came on.
>>389452330
Atmospheric music can be creepy and unsettling and it doesn't harm you in any way. Why shouldn't people scared of unsettling music and visuals? The unknown doesn't have to be tangible to be creepy.
>>389451893
Are you me?
So much this.
>>389452330
You're telling me this doesn't unnerve you? It's not tangible but still evokes unsettle.
