Super Mario 64. Seriously, I think more of the same here would really work, although today the mechanics would need to be updated, of course. But the whole exploration of straight-up 3D platforming worlds from a simple central hub has a lot of potential, I think. Plus, Galaxy 2 proved sequels without added gimmicks can work for Mario.
