Why do some N64 games require a game pak/memory cartridge? For example I have World Cup 98 and South Park and they require a gamr pak to save progress .
Some game cartridges had battery to save progress.
Fucking hated games like this. Thank God Toy Story 2 had a level select cheat code.

N64 cartridges were expensive to produce. I am guessing some editors wanted a bigger margin off sales. So they cut corners and didn't include rewriteable memory.

I just recently got the south park game too and I forgot that it needed it. I am goig to wait until next week to play it again, that's when the game pak is coming in the mail.
I have this one, it worked fine until today.
It just deleted all my saves, and when I create a new one, it just get deleted after a while.

Funny, I had and still have that exact same one, except not a single one of the games I owned actually used it.
I've also got a PS1 card from the same brand.
More importantly why does Hybrid Heaven use my entire memory card

>rent mystical ninja starring goemon as a kid
>no memory card
>have to play game in one run or leave console on to get through
>get really good at the first half of the game
>finally get a memory card'
>beast through game in a few hours
I really love the game, still one of my favorites with how goofy it is. Don't think there's much speed running for it though
You wouldn't be having this issue had you chosen the Saturn instead.
You are living life on the edge if you use a third party memory card

ram packs/cartridges; the fifth gens version of current gen practice of shitting out upgraded models halfway through the consoles' lifespan.

Does it have an internal battery? If so, you may need to replace it.

Only about 5 or so n64 games used batteries to save. The main one being oot.

Shit. I just bought this.
