Samsung and Sandisk are the only ones investing on creating bigger flash storage.

The 256GB NAND dies are smaller node size, and probably have lower yield which gives them justification to jack up the price because more of the production run is going to be unfit to go into products, plus it's new so you get the early adopter tax.
