The Splinter Cell franchise is on sale on Steam, which ones should I get besides Chaos Theory?
>>
The first 2
>>
>>389409014
Get pic related. Pretty janky but it's got a few great levels. The Shanghai mission is in the top 5 of the series.
>>
>>389409903
Pandora Tomorrow isn't on Steam though.
>>
>>389410192
Well start with the first one.
>>389410082
When I played it it was a pretty terrible experience but maybe if I gave it another shot on a better pc it wouldn't be quite as bad.
>>
>>389409014
The dude getting choked looks like he is releaved he is finally dying.
>>
>>389410485
Sam's arms are pretty comfy.
>>
>>389409014
The cholo could easily slip out.
>>
>>389409014
you need to play the original before chaos theory to fully appreciate chaos theory. and it's worth it.
>>
>>389409014
Nothing.

I played Chaos Theory first and was disappointed by every other game in the franchise.
>>
Blacklist for $9 is totally worth it.
>>
>>389413730
It's ok for a 3rd person action game with "stealth elements".
>>
>>389413828
>3rd person action game
If you're a scrub.
>>
>>389414009
If you play the game the way it was designed. You can put all kinds of weird artificial restrictions on your gameplay if you're some kind of weird role player.
>>
>>389414181
>weird artificial restrictions
Like playing an stealth game like it's an action game. I don't get why you want to do it, but I guess you're retarded.

Boy you sure are good at stealth games.
>>

Get the first two
>>
>>389414973

You see that execute meter filling? No because it's on perfectionist.

Seems like it's perfectly stupid.
Why do people still shill blacklist?
>>
>>389415810
Because it's a pretty good game unless you're an idiot who expects literally CT.

CT will never, ever happen again, at least not by Ubi.
>>
>>389416230
>have a complete, hours long infinitely re-accessible example on how to do something right
>still can't do it right

if im paying for the game i should expect it to be good. CT was good. Anything after that is not.
>>
>>389410082
Double Agent on PC is based on the 360 version not the superior OG Xbox version

so skip it
>>
>>389416461
You're really overselling CT. It breaks down in awkward ways if you start shooting, making it easier than stealth.
>>
>>389409014
SP1
CT
Blacklist
>>
>>389414181
>the way it was designed
you mean on the hardest difficulty?
>>
>>389416652
that's why the game grades your mission performances. if you shoot everyone it will be a less satisfying experience. it's just an option for people who are bored with the game or aren't skilled enough to get through it normally.
>>
>>389409903

What's wrong with Chaos Theory?
>>
>>389419069
He said besides that one.
>>
>>389418875
Blacklist grades mission performance too, and doesn't have weird behaviour when you're shooting.
>>
>>389419130

Ah, my bad for being retarded.
>>
>>389409014
Just get Chaos Theory, the first one is annoying linear trial and error stealth game, PT isn't on steam, Double Agent PC is based on the worst version, Conviction is a mess of an action game with stealth elements, and Blacklist looks to be the same but to be fair I've yet to play it.
>>
>>389416646
one version being better doesnt make the other bad.
>>
>>389419219
blacklist is different, it gives points for various playstyles, but chaos theory only uses stealth as its standard. the less stealth you use to complete a mission, the lower your score will be.
>>
>>389419620
the next-gen version of double agent is canonically a piece of shit though, it has different levels and they're significantly worse than in the good version of the game
>>
Douglas Shetland wasn't entirely in the wrong. And the later games prove this with Sam having to go rogue.
>>
>>389419640
Yeah, but have you tried getting a high score with anything but stealth in Blacklist? The way multipliers and scoring works means ghosting is superior to all other approaches.
>>
>>389420109
it's still different. chaos theory abides exclusively by the golden rule of stealth: don't be noticed. which is a part of splinter cell's canon, sam belongs to an organization that would get the US in serious trouble if it was found out. blacklist on the other hand was designed to accommodate multiple playstyles. there's an arsenal in blacklist big enough to outfit a platoon. it's just not the same thing.
>>
>get Blacklist
>Sam is a Chad now
>>
>>389420357
>the golden rule of stealth: don't be noticed
That's none of the SC games, or the Thief games. You can easily gun your way out of problems in every SC game. If requiring total and unbroken stealth is essential to be a great stealth game, you'd just have Volume clones where it's game over the instant you're detected.

The 'golden rule of stealth' is to move the player between total stealth and complete exposure, and make that space broad and interesting. Evading guards who've detected you, guards moving between varying levels of alertness, manipulating guard awareness and choosing a degree of exposure - that's what stealth is about.
>>
>>389420998
>throwing canon away for muh action gameplay
you're the reason games are bad
>>
>>389421109
What are you talking about?
>>
>>389421248
amazing
>>
>>389416646
>based on the 360 version
It's based on the PS3 version. 360 version looks better than both
>>
>>389420998
yes you can easily gun your way out of problems while lambert is scolding you about the new problems you're creating. there was a painfully obvious bias towards stealth in the classic splinter cells and that is undeniable. blacklist has a completely different design philosophy.

Is a philosophy of making stealth and combat equally well-designed bad?
>>
>>389409014
CT better with controller or mouse and keyboard
>>
>>389422154
no, but there's no point in focusing on the combat much at all in this kind of game. it really shines when you get to progress using only your instincts and your tech.
>>
>>389422441
M+KB is ez mode
>>
>>389422441
m+kb for better control over speed and thus noise and obviously aim.
>>
>>389422490
Ignore combat, and it becomes a less interesting fail state, with players quickloading rather than try to shoot a minor detection down. Remove combat as a fail state, and you get Volume or Inside where any detection is a complete failure.
>>
>>389419334
It's ok. I'm retarded too. :)
>>
Reminder that the PC/360/PS3 version of Double Agent is canon even though the Xbox/PS2 version is better.
>>
>>389423047
Weren't they the same story for the most part? They recycled voicework/FMVs between the two.

they didn't ignore it, at least they added a rapid fire AR with a scope. i never had a problem shooting if i fucked up, people who reload after every mistake do it because they're perfectionists/autists.
>>
>>389423665
Yeah well at least he doesn't get 250 """stealth points""" for each of those kills.

>>
>>389423750
So there's a scoped AR - why not have the option of switching to a suppressed shotgun? Or a marksman rifle? Throw in a few more SMGs and pistols, and you've got Blacklist's 'armoury'. Same amount of guns in the field - one pistol, one large firearm - but a choice of which gun you use.
>>
>>389424189
because you're supposed to be a very lightly armed infiltrator, not a soldier. spying on secret events and stealing sensitive information. if they wanted to kill people they wouldn't send in a lone NSA spook, they'd send in a SEAL team. opening fire is sam's last resort, everything he has at his disposal helps him avoid using lethal force. aside from the frag grenades.
