When was the last time a game pleasantly surprised you by how fun it was?

Sorry about the shit quality image.
Im a sucker for timed hits in a turn based rpg
Codename STEAM. I was admittedly charmed the second I heard the title theme.

My expectations for it were really low and it didn't help that i've tried Class of Heroes just before but didn't get impressed by it
Also the main reason i got this was because someone on /v/ was bitching about the lolis so, yeah, pleasantly surprised indeed

Paper Mario TTYD. I can't believe I've never gotten into this series before.
Very recently, actually. I picked it up because I thought it looked interesting (plus it wasn't too pricey), and I thought I would have some fun with it. It just blew me away with how in-depth its spellcrafting was and how much fun it was to experiment with the different runes.Protip: the minute you get both Ether and Random, put both of them on EVERYTHING, but it must be Random connected to Ether and nothing else.
Re:coded was character assassinated by spoiled fanboys who wanted more "epic" storytelling. It was the only game after KH1 to capture the charm a Disney JRPG could have.
I remember quitting the first couple times I tried playing it. Then when I finally started a fresh character and finished the game, it was the most fun playthrough of any game in my recent memory.
