Mid-air jumps are casual and dumb down platforming gameplay. And yes, you do mid-air jumps as Kratos in a gritty game with a realistic art direction.

Yes, God of War has a double jump, and it looks just as awkward as you think it does. It works just fine though, since the game has plenty of midair attacks and has always had light platforming elements. However, the funniest thing to me is that it's listed as an actual combo in the game itself.
