Most people will state Giant Bomb died with Ryan but in reality it was a downward slope after their first round of official hires (Patrick Klepek, Austin Walker).

When it was literally Ryan and Jeff drinking with a collage of devs and publishers with Brad handling the more official video game journalism aspect of official reviews and Vinny offering the outsider look into gaming as a lovable every-man---those were the best of times. Even the secondary cast of Dave Snider and the Whiskey crew was better.

RIP Giant Bomb---I still listen to both main podcasts out of a grotesque need to honor the past (and general boredom of working the graveyard shift) but it's been months since i watched any premium content and do not plan to renew when my membership expires next summer.

It's so hard to believe how far my dislike to now like and respect has gone with Dan.

I hated him when I started listening. I thought he was a try hard and annoying. However he won a lot of respect over the past year as one of the true forces trying to actually talk about games and what makes them fun and good. He was the only guy talking about Stardew Valley at last years awards, which got him a lot of respect in my eyes too. The fact that no one played it and brushed it off as a Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing clone like that was a bad thing is what really bummed me out last year, but Dan came in for the save.

Jeff's Jar Time videos are pretty nice if you're into him solo answering random behind-the-scenes questions about the industry and the site and such. Demo Derby and Game Tapes were both really good but they've both fallen by the wayside since Drew left and Dan went to New York. GBE playing Contradiction was great.

I tried this and Beastcast out for a month and every podcast was just talking about their personal lives and shitting on Japanese games or how they take 3+ months to finish a 20 hour game.

I just recently started listening to the bombcast. My first episode was Drews leaving announcement. I don't listen for up to date vidya news but more for a talk show that happens to be about video games so I went and started listening to old episodes. I still haven't listened to the Ryan died episode because I'm not sure I can handle it. Ryan and Jeff carried the show. Brad has always seemed st best 50% interested in the cast unless it's fucking dota. Patrick seemed ok. Vinny was a strong third. Jason who cares. Dan was alright but I can see why people hate him. Alex isn't the best, but at least he has some sense of comedic timing and a modicum of wit in his body. And he knows when not to talk.

I'm not saying Ben is a horrible person, but fuck, he's too damn awkward and unfunny for the type of position he has, period. Even Rorie does a better job at being engaging and funny, and THAT is saying something.

I believe it was because Ben, to my knowledge, worked at GB as an intern at some point and Jeff know nobody would hire a guy like Ben so there is no fear of him suddenly leaving.
