I don't exactly know how they did it. It was on the 100 brush challenge pack if you want to see it, I forget what level.

Basically, the sky contained hell knights and vores, if you were in view of the sky, they shot projectiles at you. Being a 100 brush challenge, there wasn't a whole lot of room to maneuver and dodge them.

The Arcane Dimensions mod for Q1 includes a number of visual updates for vanilla entities aside from the new stuff, including reskins (with randomized visual appearance for face, kneepads, etc.) for the idbase enemies (including the player's own Ranger playermodel), the weapon and armor pickup models, Knights, Shamblers, etc. Lots of people don't even realize it's a thing because it's not advertised as a feature of the mod anywhere and the visual updates are so close in design to the originals that you don't even notice until one day you kill a Grunt and spot the pockets on his pants are modeled instead of textured. The updated Shambler does look like shit though so I'm not going to post that.

Moreover, everything keeps to the original game's palette and texture scale limitations so nothing is standing out like a sore thumb like all the super-HD Dorkplaces mods out there.

Go big or go home, there's no reason to have such a high resolution texture on such a low poly model. The low-definition model sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the texture, whereas the original texture was actually designed for and fits with the model.
