I used to love Borderlands but now I realize how bad of a game it actually is. They do not give you the movement kit needed to deal with most enemies; especially when you're on higher difficulties. 99% of the time your only option is to trade damage and hope your weapon is good enough to win for you. If it isn't? Time to farm areas you've already been through.

OP levels just increase the levels of gear you get and enemies you face without actually pushing you past level 72.

I really liked the original Borderlands. Looking back on it, it wasn't a great game, but it really hit the spot for me somehow. The diablo 2 style loot in fps form was refreshing. I liked the atmosphere, playing offline at least.

Borderlands 2 and every subsequent gearbox venture really soured the mood for me.

I REALLY loved BL 1 and 2. I think I must have put in over 100 hours each. But the presequel just didn't do it for me the same way. The writing was a lot sloppier (not to mention all the times it went out of its way to make cracks at fans it didn't like), the abilities didn't feel as interesting or have as much synergy, and the setting just wasn't as interesting.

I agree that BL was a product of its time and that much of its charm and unique appeal would be difficult to recreate nowadays, but I don't think it'd be wholly impossible to make another good Borderlands title. Well first of all BL2's weapon gen was total shit with far less combinations than 1's and the forced gimmicks on every gun from each brand was a horrible concept, but also finding and exploring all the types of guns there are to see is a huge part of the game so when it's all built on the same systems with the same models and sounds and presets it doesn't feel very much like a new game.

Slag weapons is useless solely because once you find any/good slag grenade, there's simply is no fucking point in a slag weapon since you don't have to deal with the weapon switching delay, and you can slag more than one enemy in an instant.
