Crysis 1 is probably still one of the most demanding games since it's so badly optimized for current gen hardware.

If you can max out DOOM at 144fps you might get 50-70 on maxed out Crysis.

Dishonored 2 is similarly bad in that with a system equivalent to the above it'll average ~50 fps maxed.

Nah Crysis was made before things like texture atlassing, draw call batching, GPU instancing and such existed, you have the old mentality of each model getting an individual texture and such so even though the game shouldn't be taxing it has way more draw calls than a current gen game which makes up for the fact it's not as taxing on the GPU as a current gen game.

Draw calls are extremely cpu intensive which is why its become the focus for optimization in recent years over stuff like tri/poly counts or texture sizes and shader optimizations.

If it's optimized, it generally doesn't have a major performance hit relative to beefy/beefy-ish hardware, and Witcher 2's uber certainly is NOT optimized, especially since it defaults to 4x, as setting it to 2x in the config manually makes things a little more bearable, but with nonexistent scaling on new hardware. The latest COD's of all fucking things have native downsampling, and it's extremely optimized, I'm able to do 1920x1200 > 3840x2400 easy on a Fury, so long as textures are just on high
