Don't listen to this nigger, Hard West is nothing like XCOM apart from being a SRPG. The game has extremely limited character progression, because it's based around playing a multitude of very short scenarios, not long campaigns, like you do in XCOM.

Jagged Alliance 2. It is a few years old already, but gameplay wise you don't really notice that. It's a turn based tactical game where you hire from a pool of mercenaries and create a squad to liberate a small country under dictatorship. It plays very roughly like a deeper, more complex Xcom 2, and there is an unofficial fan patch for it that adds even more mechanics and pretty much every conceivable gun and ammunition.

Silent Storm and Silent Storm: Sentinels.

The gameplay still holds up, graphics do as well, and no game since has done better destroyable environments. Hear an enemy a floor higher than you? Shoot through the ceiling, he falls down and you finish him off. He's on a balcony? Blow that shit up. He's in an adjacent room? Just shoot through the wall. Great games, both of them.

Just play the original xcom, it's perfect in every single way. Unashamedly the best of its genre.

Also play Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall if you want a turn based tactical game with TERRIBLE gameplay but actually compelling characters and a great plot.

Battle Brothers is a good turn based equivalent of mountain blade.

Mordheim got a video game adaptation recently that is actually decent.
Though I feel it's a bit TOO accurate. The old complaint that you don't notice an old TT system's flaws until you're doing it far more quickly and repetitively in vidya format.
It's something to try though, usually when I mention this everyone disagrees with me so you might enjoy it.

Doorkickers is an interesting little tactics/puzzle game as well.

Finally, Total War is a turn based strategic campaign layer with tactical real time battles.
The tactics are INCREDIBLY simple and easy, but the presentation and scale make up for this and make it feel special.
Play Rome or Medieval 2 for the roots of the series and the best mods.
Play the original medieval if 3d graphics scare you and you want to roll the dice as to whether or not your computer can run it.
Play Napoleon or Fall of the Samurai for guns
Play Shogun 2 or Attila for the best games in the series.
Play Warhammer if you like fantasy.

I think Shogun 2 pulls ahead further in overall quality, but Attila's line of sight and fire mechanics on the battlefield along with the campaign depth are really special. If it wasn't optimized abysmally it'd tie with S2/FOTS. As it stands it's slightly far behind.
Also amusing that the two best games have the laziest army rosters.

ROTS is just vanilla with slight different unit types and far less faction identity. Coming from arr rook same basegame it's pretty bad.

Men of War is okay, I think it doesn't have the best balance overall for multiplayer. Game is either just standard RTS, or direct control accuracy RNG deciding battles. Both of which aren't what the game really advertises.
Also I got sick of only russians hosting games back in the original MoW and kicking me for >australian 350 ping lag game not my pentium 2 xaxaxaxa))))
The singleplayer stuff is okay though.
Also there are mods like star wars and shit for some of the games.

Its pretty good, if you look up a guide for character creation. Its main flaw is that only a handful of builds are viable.

XCOM EW + Long War. 100% recommended to first do a vanilla run and then slap on Long War. It will be an unforgettable, brutal, stressful, yet addicting time. It's been 3 fucking years since I kicked the addiction and I still remember a few of my missions
