You want to play them in release order. There's a continuous story, particularly in the first three games. That's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney first, then Justice For All, then Trials and Tribulations. After that, it's a little complicated.

Play the mainline in release order. You can play Investigations 1 and 2 after finishing AA3 or when you're done with the mainline titles. I personally like adult Ema Skye.
