It's not about the colors, it's about the gameplay you fucking idiot. The problem is that pieces lock in place like 2 frames after they drop and the hard drop is still slow as fuck. Sega nailed the whole thing with his arcade version and his rules are used on pretty much almost every nu-Tetris game with some extra polish.
Face it, Nintendo Tetris had shit mechanics.

It honestly felt like a new fresh mechanic when I first knew it existed and I can't pretty much stand any game that lacks it. It's simply great since it helps to create new strategies while not killing the pace of the game and it just works stupidly well.
