As a fan i wouldn't say the movies RAPED the books, they're obviously more action oriented, had to cut sone stuff to make the lenght bearable and have small changes to "modernize" them, but there was a clear respect for the world and characters, a lot of work went into their realization, from the use of elvish language to the camera tricks employed to keep the various races' statures correct. The third movie is probably the biggest offender if you had to look for one, since the battles went so over the top. But it was still good shit - just not enough to please Christopher, Tolkien's son which is clearly a great purist

The Hobbit movies are a weirder beast. I honestly love the first movie, it does a good job of translating the cozy adventure feeling of the book, kept some of the songs, which I'm sure worse directors would've deemed too cheesy, and the OCs don't feel too obnoxious and unnecessary. The second is kind of more of the same, but it already felt like the second act of a different movie, the story shouldn't have been stretched to three of them, OCs start becoming more apparent. The third movie it's almost pure fanfiction. It starts with a wet fart as it failed to bring the epic dragon fight the second promised, and things only get worse - the OCs are now the absolute protagonists, battles are as cartoony as ever, relations to the LotR trilogy are awkwardly forced in in a power rangers ghosts fight sequence, and the production problems are as apparent as ever, an actor appears as a literal CG person because he was too sick for filming and they couldn't find a replacement. Battle of five armies disappointed me traumatically, i literally haven't given a single glance at the trilogy since, despite how i like 1 and 2

tl;dr i wouldn't call it rape but there's enough to justify some bitching. But thats ignoring the stuff outside the movies. Imagine what face Christopher Tolkien made when he learned Sauron would be a villain in a LEGO BATMAN movie

What sucks is the actual concept behind the Nemesis system and the The Hobbit/LoTR universe could have made a amazing sequel that expanded everything and made it pretty great.

Instead, it is just Orcs again and the locations still seem pretty limited, on top of all the bullshit the combat system from the first game had in addition to all the microtransaction and DLC bullshit baggage.
