There's literally a track from Halo 2 called "The Last Spartan" and how are marketing materials wrong when they are consistent with the games, that acknowledge that Chief is the only living spartan left? It's clear that their intentions were to have John as the only surviving Spartan at first, but then the series blew up and they needed to milk the universe and in the process, destroy an interesting element of the original games. Gray team was apparently around and did fuck all during Earth invasion and the final push. They obviously wrote the EU around the fact that chief was the last spartan alive, because the games are so fucking inconsistent with the nulore.

How can I be wrong? They've even said that non-gameplay elements of Halo games take priority and overrules in the canonical heirarchy over EU and supplementary materials. And the games do significantly more to suggest Chief is the last spartan than not. You never hear about any other Spartans other than Chief. You never see any Spartans past Reach other than Chief. Marines acknowledge it too.

And I dont really care at all about the 343 fanfiction.

m8. The first book (which came out before Halo Combat Evolve even released) had a shit ton of "other spartans" and that was all Bungie.

The "Last Spartan" myth comes from everyone believing that Master Chief was the last Spartan because all of the others were unknown and MIA.

The Crew of the Pillar of Autumn believed Chief was the last Spartan because they believed they just saw the Spartans get wiped out during the glassing of Reach that they were running from.

There CANONICALLY was even another Spartan with you on The Pillar of Autumn (Linda) in Combat Evolved

That being said, the travis books aren't as bad as people say. They have issues and are on the lower end of the spectrum of halo novels, but the first two still do enough stuff right to be worth reading, the sanghelios bits are good.

Look, one thing we'll have to agree on is that the entire canon is skewed. Bungie and 343 have even said so themselves. Tons of inconsistencies, mistakes etc. If we look at only the games, which I already told you take precedent over everything, they do not line up consistently with the EU. So shit like Linda being on the pillar of autumn is neither seen or talked about in CE. And i'm glad its not becsuse it would have ruined the entire isolation angle.

And then if we strictly look at the games from all the way up to 5, blue team are just fucking there with chief with no explanation, despite never having any mention in any of the previous games. They are just these faceles, bland Spartan II's that existed all this time and were even in close vicinity of chief but never had any mentions?

You can choose how to view the Halo canon, but looking purely from the games, 343's are not consistent with the originals and rely on EU.

And Chief wasn't the last spartan, the sequels literally spell it out that he wasn't with 4 & 5. It doesn't matter if you don't like the games, they completely validated EU sources that state there were other Spartans during the latter parts of the HxC conflict, sorry friendo but when you're literally denying facts and jumping through mental gymnastics to try and validate your point, that means you've lost the debate.

I don't like what 343 has done either, but it's canon and even Bungie nodded to First Strike which had multiple Spartan IIs in it that survived post Reach.

They acknowledge that they're shocked about their presence, sure. Most UNSC operatives that weren't high rank hardly even believed the Spartans exists or were even human. There weren't even that many before they got nearly wiped out, there were only around 50 so seeing one at all was a big deal.
