It's becoming more and more obvious that Nintendo wants you to believe that Toads are the ONLY NPC characters in the Mario universe in the current year. This is laughable for anyone who has been following along with Mario continuity for the past thirty years.
Toad was always just that jackass who told you that the Princess was in another castle, that's it, and never did anything else. Meanwhile other characters, like the Kongs, the Yoshis, the Paper Mario cast, the BeanBean Kingdom, all have done so much more for this franchise as a whole.
But ever since Sticker Star, these other, interesting characters have VANISHED in order to shove toads into everything.
I hate Toads.

When have you EVER seen the characters from spin-off titles in the mainline games? It almost never happens. There is zero precedent to be upset right now, because the characters from Paper Mario, Wario Ware, The Super Mario Bros Super Show and My Little Pony will never disgrace the mainline games ever in the rest of your life, nor were they ever going to because they keep that shit in containment.

There was never too much variety. Aside from Toads, you'd get Koopas, Bob-ombs, Shy Guys, and that's about it. Shy Guys are now pretty much a Yoshi enemy nowadays anyway. Complaining about Toads in Paper Mario is one thing, but complaining about them in an entirely different venue where another species (the Rabbids) are the focus is something else entirely.
