They actually had some fun ideas and it wasn't just 1v1. You had many more heroes to choose from, even to the point where they had neutral monster heroes you could play as. And you could buy special raid sets where one person plays as the raid, and you have to get like 4-5 people to play against you. I got a bunch of the cards cheap and built some class decks for my friends to play and try the raids.

They ran out of existing and WoW TCG art after The Grand Tournament (even then majority of that art was original), which was over half of Hearthstone lifespan ago.

The combination of Hearthstones format, flavour, accessibility and polish just prove it's amazing for pushing a profit at a lower development cost.
That doesn't mean that Blizzard isn't investing the correct amount of money into Hearthstone as it should be.

Ben Brodes went from Senior Game Designer to Game Director in less than 2 years. In combination with his interaction with the community and fan following, I wouldn't be surprised to see him running his own company in 10 years time.
