Regardless, my claim is that DQVIII has one of the best open worlds ever seen in a JRPG, not about it's combat. The towns in DQVIII feel unique, all with their own little backstory, with plenty of dialogue and cute little world moments. There's nothing quite like ignoring the reason you're in a town for thirty minutes in order to collect all of the mini medals and take photos of slimes.

I think one of the worst things about it wasn't necessarily the story itself but the god awful pacing and the way it was executed. It's like they had a great outline for a story but then just forgot to fill it in all of the way

Also the dungeons sucked.

A simple thing that bugged me about the game was that a 3DS game didn't have you use the touch screen for commands. Call it autism but it just bothered the shit out of me.

But the difference between the two is that I have to stay at least slightly comatose during the repetition of Bravely Default's time loops, but not during the easy mode grinding.

Being a mediocre copy of an already mediocre battle system from the SNES day isn't really good in my eyes, BD was lackluster in everything but the art direction, which is still classic Yoshida playing it super safe, but it was overall good nonetheless.

I think the fault in BD lies in the protagonist. Tiz was never meant to lead and is only there to tie Agnes and Airy to the party. There is no reason that Ringabel couldn't assemble the team himself, knowing what he doesn't know. That's why he and Edna joined the party.
